If you are sending your resume to a prospective employer, you'll probably also have to include a separate letter of application. This is usually one page long. The letter indicates your interest in a particular company or position, summarizes the most important aspects of your education and experience, and lets the employer know where and when you can be contacted for an interview.
A letter of application is also called a covering letter but both follow the same plan:
your address goes in the top right hand corner. With the date under it.
their address on the left hand side (but a little lower).
begin Dear sir or Madam & end Yours faithfully if you don*t know the name.
begin Dear Mr Gillespie & end Yours sincerely if you know the name.
Paragraph 1– why you are writing and where you learned about the job.
Paragraph 2– why you are interested in the job and why you are suitable.
Paragraph 3– why you think that you would be an asset to the firm.
Paragraph 4– where you can be contacted, that you can come to an interview and that you have enclosed your CV.
Now look at the example on the next page and put the correct words into the gaps.
contact – discuss – employed – involved – welcome – apply – enjoy – notice – advertised – matches |
