Tuesday’s morning three men robbed the biggest bank of the city.
Tom Wilson, a bank clerk, who was on duty that unfortunate day, says that the robbers came into the main entrance at 2 p.m. They were wearing masks and two of them had guns. The bank guards tried to stop them, but were disarmed at once. One of the managers managed to push an alarm button while the criminals were busy with the security. Then two of the robbers aimed the guns at the clerks and ordered them to put all money they had into the bags which were carried by the other two smugglers.
The police came 10 minutes after the alarm button had been pushed. But by that moment the criminals had disappeared.
Fortunately one of the robbers was recognized by Margaret Sweet, a client of the bank: “His face seemed familiar to me. And later I realized that I saw it every day. He is the son of my neighbours.”
In the evening of the same day the robbers were arrested and charged with arson.

Manslaughter
In 1981 Marianne Bachmeir, from Lubeck, west Germany, was in Court watching the trial of Klaus Grabowski who had murdered her 7 year-old daughter. Grabowski had a history of attacking children. During the trial, Frau Bachmeir pulled a Beretta 22 pistol from her handbag and fired eight bullets, six of which hit Grabowski, killing him. The defence said she had bought the pistol with the intention of committing suicide, but when she saw Grabowski in court she drew the pistol and pulled the trigger. She was found not guilty of murder, but was given six years imprisonment for mans-laughter. West German newspapers reflected the opinion of millions of Germans that she should have been freed, calling her “the avenging mother”.
