Student life at the university
The social life of the University is enhanced by lectures of eminent visitors, evenings of student performances, and parties.
As for the academic activities organized by the PSU, students are more than welcome to attend and take part in a number of annual conferences at the faculties. For example, the English language department organizes a students’ conference devoted to the up-to-date problems of the modern world.
The campus environment is rich with athletic, artistic, musical and social opportunities. It is out of the question that the University can be a lot of fun… sports, clubs, music, politics, dorm life, and, of course, parties. It is worth saying that in fact there are two most important parties for every student at the University: Freshman Day and Tatiana’s Day.
Freshman Day is a custom for the first year students. This day means that from now on the life of a first year student is closely connected and interwoven with the University life. The student gets acquainted with the University campus, its traditions and beliefs.
As for Tatiana’s Day, it is celebrated on the 25th of January. This dates back in 1755, Russian Impress Elizabeth the Great founded the Moscow University. Since that time this day has become the most favorite and the merriest holiday of students. Students gather into large groups and walk all together along the streets singing students’ songs and drinking beer. Not only students but also professors consider Tatiana’s Day to be their professional holiday and they themselves somehow became old students and acted accordingly. All faculties and departments of the University participate in this celebration.
The students of PSU have a possibility to be engaged in extra curriculum activities of different clubs and organizations. A student can show his/her theatrical abilities in the students’ club. In case a student is best at writing, he/she will have a chance to be published at the University newspaper. The abilities of a dj can be revealed at the University radio. These are not the only places where the students can realize their potentials. There are all kinds of clubs and organizations on the faculties. So it’s up to a student to choose!
