1. В британском варианте have используется для обозначения обычного повторяющегося действия или состояния. Форма have got употребляется в тех случаях, когда речь не идет о привычных действиях. С have got вспомогательный глагол do не используется.

I usually have milk in the house. — У меня в доме обычно есть молоко. I have got toothache — У меня болит зуб (сейчас)

2. Глагол have yпотребляется с большим количеством существительных, утрачивая свое основное значение («иметь») и обозначает действие. В отличие от основного значения в этих сочетаниях глагол может использоваться в форме continuous (is/are/was having).

Согласование времен

В английском языке если сказуемое главного предложения выражено глаголом в прошедшем времени, то сказуемое придаточного предложения (преимущественно дополнительного) не может употребляться в форме настоящего или будущего времени — оно должно быть выражено одной из форм прошедшего времени. В этом случае все времена в придаточном предложении сдвигаются на одну «ступеньку» вниз.
