Raster charts
Raster charts
Raster is a Computer graphics term describing a predetermined pattern of line that provides uniform coverage of a display space. Raster graphics are computer graphics that are composed of an array of pixels arranged in rows and columns. Raster charts are stored as a series of pixels.

Mapmedia mm2 Charts
Mapmedia mm2 charts are in the " the second generation " Raster format, the display quality of the text has been improved (anti aliasing effect).
Mapmedia mm2 charts are in 16,7 million colors, this improvement in the quality of your charts displayed on the screen is not achieved at the expense of disk space.
The screen refresh display, when you move within the Cartographic window, is made gradually with an intermediate display which seems fuzzy (example below).
Display partially in favor the speed of movement |
Net and optimal final display of the data |
Contrary to the other cartographic formats which lose in quality and in performance when we pass from a lower scale (under-zooming) of the chart, the .mm2 chart format Does not lose its quality or display speed.
The Mapmedia mm2 format offers numerous advantages:
The management of the mm2 cartographic format permits optimal organization of cartographic data to best display your charts.
The fast and simplified installation allows managing mm2 Mapmedia charts directly from MaxSea, by way of the Mapmedia mm2 charts catalog.

Switching Chart From One To Another
IMPORTANT - THIS FUNCTION IS ONLY ACTIVE FOR RASTER CHARTS
This function allows switching from one chart to another one when several charts of the same scale are available.
This is frequently the case at the edges of charts, several charts can overlap in the same scale (or close to the same scale in the example below the chart in the scale " 50000 " is displayed by default While in this area a chart with a scale of " 51000 " appears underneath).
To know the charts which are effectively available in this scale, enable the pop-up menu by means of a right click in the place where several charts overlap (to help you outline charts: to display them select [ Option: display] from the menu
[Display]).
Sample:
In this example the chart 6829 is displayed by default, the pop-up menu shows that it is possible to switch the display to the chart 6855 by selecting the corresponding option.
166
Electronic Charts
The chart which was hidden is displayed top and the pop-up menu is simultaneously updated and proposing the option to display it as the default chart.
Note: MaxSea records the last display changes, and defaults to the chart which has just been selected at the next start up of the program. On the other hand if the chart file is closed this configuration is not taken into account.

Mapmedia V1 Charts
IMPORTANT - Look after your CD-ROMs, cleaning them when necessary with a product designed specifically for this purpose.
A dirty CD-ROM may lead to the malfunctioning of MaxSea and/or the system software.
Mapmedia charts are available on CD-ROM. You have the choice to buy only certain charts on the CD-ROM (you can buy other charts at a later date as you wish).
Charts are opened using codes which are sent to you by Maxsea International or Mapmedia. These codes are unique and are personal, they are linked to your hardware key.
To use a Mapmedia CD-ROM, it is necessary to configure MaxSea. The MapmediaConfig software, delivered with MaxSea, can be used to enter personal codes necessary for chart access.
Note:
167
MaxSea Operator Manual version 12.6
1 - If you forgot to enter your personal codes before starting up the software, MaxSea shows automatically the
"Mapmedia Config. CD " dialogue box.
2 - you will have to carry out this configuration procedure before first using a Mapmedia CD-ROM and each time that you receive new codes, following a new request for new charts.
Chart Display Fault
If you change your computer, the Mapmedia charts codes are lost. In this case it is necessary to enter the corresponding codes again, as above.
Note: you will have to repeat this operation for each one of the CD-ROMs that you have (a series of codes per CD-ROM). It is not necessary to insert a CD-ROM to enter the corresponding codes.
IMPORTANT - Be sure to keep track of your personal codes for Mapmedia charts.
Mapmedia 3D Batymetric Charts
Bathymetric data used by Mapmedia comes from the sounding campaigns realised by Ifremer and the Hydrographic Services. They use multi-beam sounders covering the deep up to 7 times.
The whole of the data is then processed to obtain a matrix that contains the geographical (x,y) coordinates as well as the
(z) deep corresponding to every points.
Then, files are subsequently interpolated to guarantee regular information networking.
The 3D Mapmedia module allows the 3D display for a current chart zone for which you have already access rights. (refer you to the Enter 3D Mapmedia codes paragraph from Installing charts chapter)
ARCS / Seafarer CD Roms catalog
ARCS / SeaFarer catalog
Now launch MaxSea and try to open ARCS / SeaFarer charts.
To open an ARCS / SeaFarer catalog:
•either select [Open Chart] under the [File] menu.
•or you can choose to open the file Chart.cat under the ARCS folder. select from the [File] menu [Open] to find the chart.cat file under "C:\Program Files\I&M\Maxsea\ARCS" from your hard disk.
