My research

My name is Loktyushina Yuliya Vladimirovna. While studying at the University, I had a bent for research and took an active part in the work of a students' scientific circle and did reports at conferences. I graduated from the University in 2006. Now I am a post-graduate student at the faculty of – Physics.

My course of study extends over not less than 4 academic years as I am a part-time post-graduate student.

I am especially interested in the field of hydrodynamics. My dissertation is devoted to calculation of high speed liquid impact to a number of technological situations. I am provided with a supervisor. Professor Semko Alexander Nikolayevich is the supervisor in my research work.

In the course of my research, I have to read articles in English periodicals which I borrow from our University library or I use the Internet facilities. I am keeping myself informed in my own special field because there is extensive literature on the topic of my investigation.

On completing my course of study I am going to submit my thesis and to forward a short abstract of thesis to the higher authorities. By this time I shall have got some scientific publications in scientific periodicals. One of the articles was published by me in collaboration with my supervisor in the “Bulletin of Donetsk National university”. I think my thesis will make a certain contribution to the knowledge of the subject by the discovery of new facts about the application of high speed of a liquid jet. Let me pass over to the analysis of my abstract headlined “Influence of density of a liquid on hydrocannon parameters”. It covers a wide range of problems referring to investigate the mechanics of the emergence and flight of a liquid jet travelling at speeds supersonic relative to the sound speed. My research paper is based on the theory of incompressible ideal liquid. The first discussion is focused on influence of property of a liquid on hydrocannon parameters. Included in the abstract are also detailed tabulated data. The available bibliography is quite extensive and includes only original sources. The next point to be dealt with is functional optimization of parameters of a hydrocannon.

Science in Ukraine

In our days science is increasingly becoming an immediate productive force of society. New trends in mechanics, physics, chemistry, biology, cybernetics, mathematics have been developed in the country. Especially great success has been scored in the sphere of electric welding and metallurgy. The scientists of Ukraine have created new technologies for producing man-made diamonds. Much work has been done in the study of the Earth's surface, in space exploration. Our scientists have contributed a lot to the study of seas and oceans to use their wealth in the national economy.

Numerous successes have been achieved in the socio-humanitarian studies too. After Ukraine was proclaimed an independent state, the attention of economists, law scholars, and sociologists has been focused on forming a market-type economy; developing innovation policy; state decrees and legal acts; on studying regularities of social structure development of the society.

Ukrainian scientists are the authors of many outstanding discoveries in various fields of human activities. Among them are the Patons who have been working in the field of welding; Ivan Horbachevskyi, a talented biochemist and epidemiologist; Olexandr Bohomolets who made a lot of discoveries in medical science; Mykhailo Hrushevskyi, who was a tireless researcher of Ukrainian people's history and culture, he was an advocate of the national integrity of Ukrainian lands and many others.

The National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine is the organizing and coordinating centre of all scientific work. It is a self-governing research organization. The National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine is responsible for a greater part of scientific achievements in the country. The Academy of Sciences of Ukraine began its activity on November 27, 1918 during the Civil War. At present the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine unites outstanding scientists of the country. 13 Departments function within the NAS of Ukraine, 6 Regional Science Centres operate within it. The basic units of the NAS of Ukraine are research institutes and science institutions equivalent to them. The Academy has a R&D base which includes pilot production facilities, design and technology organisation, computer centres.

The highest body of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine is the General meeting consisting of members and corresponding members of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. The General meeting discusses problems of development of science in the country, determines directions of its scientific work and settles principal organizational questions. It is convened not less than once a year.

The National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine has its own publishing house "Naukova Dumka" and it has the right to elect foreign members and to organize international and state conferences, symposia, etc.
