Types of Accommodation

Hotel types

Hotel is a place where a traveller may find food and shelter. The ideal hotel has big rooms with comfortable beds and good facilities, including business centre. It should be as near to the centre of the town as possible but within easy reach of the airport. There are different types of hotels:

Luxury hotel– it provides every facility a wealthy guest may need.

Resort hotel – it is situated in a place where tourists like to stay, often near the sea, lake or in the mountains. Guests usually boo it in advance.

Commercial hotel– it is often situated in a town centre and provides accommodation for travelling businessman, staying only one or two nights.

Airport hotel– it provides accommodation for people going to or coming from other countries usually staying only for one night.

Country house hotel– it is situated in pleasant scenery and provides comfortable but informal accommodation for people who want to relax in a quiet place.

Guest house - it provides low-priced accommodation usually on a small scale, for holiday visitors or for long-stay guests.

Motel - is built specially to provide a service to motorists.

B&B (bed and breakfast) – it is a small hotel, a kind of boarding house, which provides home-like low-price accommodation with breakfast.

All suites hotels – a five star hotel.

All-inclusive hotel – it works according to formula “All included”. All the services and facilities are included.

Apart hotel– the rooms of this hotel are equipped with small kitchen.

Bungalow hotel– a number of one-storey houses in tropics.

Chambre d’hotel – French variant of B&B. These hotels are very popular among Frenchmen and foreign tourists. They often offer home-made food for breakfast.

Economy hotel– a hotel of the very low rate.

Grand Hotel– a world-spread name of expensive, elitist hotels all over the world, but not the hotel chain.

Holiday homes

Homoswap - private houses used for tourists accommodation.

Holiday Hotel– пансионат.

Host family – accommodation in families.

Hostel – cheap hotel for young people.

Hotel garni- small hotel, as a rule, without a restaurant. Sometimes continental breakfast is offered.

Hotel lido– hotel situated at the seaside or near the lake.

Hotel-club– a small isolated hotel of the high rate, which belongs to some club or society. They are often situated in the countryside.

Hotel with a day nursery– a hotel with baby sitters for family holiday.

Independent hotel– a hotel which isn’t in the hotel chain.

Major hotel– a hotel with a high quality service.

Ocean front hotel– a hotel with an ocean view.

Parador– a castle reconstructed into a luxury hotel.

Seasonal hotel– a hotel which functions only during the season.

Standard hotel / backpackers – hotels with standard rooms.

Temperance hotel– a hotel where strong drinks are not used.

Hotel U- a luxury hotel which is very extraordinary, for example like a castle.

Capsule hotel– a hotel in Japan, where the rooms are not large but equipped with a TV, an alarm clock and a night-light.

Chalet– a hotel or a house in a country style for accommodation of small groups of tourists.

Camp – camp for autotourists, equipped with tents or other buildings of a summer types, parking, water supply, facilities for cooking.

Campground– grounds for camping in the country.

Camping permit– permit to stop on the camp.

Hotel chain– a hotel net of the hotels of the same name situated all over the world in big cities. For example Hilton, Marriott, Radisson, Sheraton.
