Exercise 1. a) Comment on the use of Subjunctive I and the Suppositional Mood in the following sentences:

1. Come what may, he decided to sell the house.

2. Everybody stand up!

3. ‘I like your young boy, Dinny,’ said her grandmother. ‘Be yours a happy marriage!’

4. And what if the truth should come out?

b) Provide the English equivalents of the phrases in brackets.

1. (Будь, что будет), I’ll accept his offer.

2. (Достаточно сказать) that we will do our duty.

3. (Будь прокляты) your convictions!

4. (Я вовсе и не собираюсь) to preach you a sermon.

c) Translate into English.

Exercise 2. Change the following sentences so as to use the Suppositional Mood or Subjunctive I in nominal clauses of every given type.

Model: I suggest giving our own examples.

2. (predicative clause) My suggestion is that we give our own examples.

3. (object clause) I suggest that we give our own examples.

4. (attributive clause) I think there are no objections to my suggestion that we give our own examples.

Exercise 4. Open the brackets.

Exercise 6 Translate the sentences using the Suppositional Mood.
