  1. My research and my supervisor

I’m a master student at the faculty of “Forestry and Ecology” of Volga State University of Technology. My research goal is forest cover monitoring in the Mari El Republic through retrospective analysis of the satellite images data of average and high resolution. My scientific field of interests includes forest cover evaluation of Russian Volga region with the use of spectral indexes of the satellite images of average and high resolution allowing to reveal spatiotemporal dynamics of vegetation over vast areas and to determine its stocks with rather acceptable accuracy. The research gained an award at the Russian national conference on rational use of natural resources and was recorded (Что имеется в виду?) with the documents about the research results introduction in Mari El Republic forestry organizations. It is supposed that the results will be used in the international projects concerning the creation of the carbon sequestration Kyoto forests in our region.

My supervisor is Professor Eldar Kurbanov. He is a specialist in the international forestry management. The scope of his scientific interests consists in:

  • thematic maps creation of forest cover dynamics,

  • spatiotemporal evaluation of the late changes (чего?) with satellite images use at different time moments (?)(change detection),

  • study of social and economic factors influence on the latest changes in the forest resources,

  • study of carbon sequestration in the framework of the Kyoto protocol.

Eldar Kurbanov is interested in my scientific work and gives me useful advice. Thanks to my supervisor I defined the objectives and the goals of my present and future scientific work. Thanks to my supervisor I participated in the international conference “Tackling climate change: the contribution of forest scientific knowledge”, held in Tours, France in the spring of 2012.
