THE ANALYSIS OF FACTORS FOR ENHANCING COMPETITIVENESS IN SLOVAK INDUSTRIAL COMPANIES IN ACCORDANCE WITH CONCEPT OF CSR

The age of industry is finished. Global environmental changes brought transition to the new age of information. At the age of information the main global idea is about the quality, price and time as the factors needed to raise competition insufficient. A healthy and functioning company should have a full and internal productive balance, that can be achieved by using the opportunities of the market and moreover it is developed in the ecological and social dimension. In this time the question of sustainability and sustainable competitiveness is discussed. The European Union made a report that outlines factors should play a very important role in raising the competitiveness of the companies. The EU discussed the factors relying on the environmental pillar and social pillar. We made a very preliminary research. We found out that the managers of the companies consider the concept of CSR not to be a straight factor for rising competitions. But they respect the concept as a factor which helps to build good reputation of company, as a motivator for higher performance of employees. As we know, good name and well-directed employees performance improvement are very important for rising competitions. It is usual that company, which wants to be successful, must make a profit. As a questionnaire says the concept of CSR can bring the company a great profit. And it is important to mention that it can bring sustainable profit.

LINEAR PROGRAMMING AS A METHOD

OF OPTIMIZATION OF COMPANY’S PROCESSES

Nowadays the global economic crisis deteriorates the business environment and makes it more difficult for companies to manage. Therefore companies must learn to adapt and make an effort to secure an effective and promising development in these constantly changing conditions. Therefore managers pay more attention to improving and optimizing possibilities, which would help their company not only to survive but also to best fulfill their goals. Application of Linear Programming is one of these possibilities.

Linear Programming was developed in early 50s simultaneously by Russian mathematicians Kantovich and Gavurin and American mathematician Dantzing. The most breakthrough discovery was Dantzing’s creation of Simplex method. Therefore he is referred to as “the father of Linear Programming”. This method has been developed and evolved ever since mostly due to new technological inventions and wide spread use of computers.

Throughout almost 70 years of its usage as a method of optimization in companies Linear Programming has been applied in order to model many different types of company’s processes.

This paper focuses on both theoretical background of Linear Programming and its application in managerial practice. A brief description of application programs (software) to support the Linear Programming is also included.

The aim of this paper is to emphasize the advantages of Linear Programming as a method of optimization, to describe the most significant possibilities of its practical application. The later is also supported by an example. We demonstrate the application of Linear Programming on an example from managerial practice. In this case it is the planning of production program.
