1.We are students now

I am an accountant. I am Russian. My name is Mrs. Ivanov. My first name is Ann.

I am a student now. You are a student too. We are all students at the Courses of foreign: languages. We work at a bank company.

Our bank cooperates with various foreign banks. We receive a lot of letters, telexes and cables from foreign banks and customers. They are written in various languages. A lot of papers are sent in reply.

We handle payment instructions, debit advices, and credit advices. We check various payment documents, such as bills of exchange, drafts and many others.

2.Richard is beginning to work

Richard remembers very well the first day he began to work in the accounts department of the shipping company.

He opened his eyes at about seven o'clock in the morning and looked at the calendar. "October" it said. And round today's date "Monday 19' was a red ring. It was an important day in his life. "I'm beginning my employment in the office. I'm a businessman now. I'm something in the City", he thought. He knew his parents were proud of him now. They wanted their son to be in one business -or another.

After a light breakfast he set off for the City with the morning newspaper, the Times, under his arm and a letter confirming his appointment, in his pocket.

It was Mr. Clifford, one of the accountants, who met Richard in the lobby and took him to the general office. Mr. Clifford asked Richard to help him with the morning mail. Richard opened envelopes, took out letters and stamped them. If he found some cheques or papers with the letters he pinned them to the letters so they did not get lost.

When the working day was over Richard was tired but happy He realized that the work he did was very monotonous. But he hoped the work of an accountant was certainly different.

3. Richard's letter home

My dear mother and father, I am writing this to you from the small flat that I have rented. It's modern and very comfortable. But unfortunately it's not large enough and it's not very warm either.

I have been here in London for about a year now. And I am glad to have this chance. This morning I have bought a postcard for you and I am sending it to you with this letter. I have seen all those places shown in the postcard. I am doing very well in my office. My boss has praised me a lot. So I am very proud. I first worked in the general office and now I am working in an accounts department. I like my work very much. I thank you for all the letters received from you. I hope everything is all right at home. I miss you. All my love. Richard.

4. My plans

I'm planning to have a holiday next month. I don't know exactly where I'll spend it. But the only thing I'm sure of is that I'll leave town and go to another place.

As to my work I don't know who will take over. Most probably it'll be Mr. Semenov. He has replaced me a few times. And I think my boss will ask him again to do my job when I'm away.

I hope Mr. Semenov won't refuse to take up my job. He's a very experienced accountant. He knows his job inside out. He's never made any errors. So I'll be reassured if he takes it
