ВВЕДЕНИЕ

Предлагаемое учебное пособие предназначено для обучения студентов первого курса магистратуры направления 54.04.01 «Дизайн» дисциплине «Иностранный язык в профессиональной деятельности», специализирующихся по двум профилям подготовки: «Дизайн интерьера» и «Дизайн пространственной среды». Цель пособия – помочь студентам овладеть иностранным языком в объеме, обеспечивающем потенциальное иноязычное общение с иностранными партнерами в процессе профессиональной деятельности в сфере выбранной специальности.

Пособие состоит из 10 юнитов, построенных на основе аутентичных текстов, взятых из английских и американских популярных изданий по дизайну. Каждый юнит начинается с подготавливающего к восприятию темы задания Warm – up, целью которого является активизация имеющихся у студентов фоновых знаний предметного характера посредством дискуссии или ответов на вопросы. Затем следуют тексты, освещающие различные аспекты профессиональной сферы. Каждый текст сопровождается заданием, требующим активного использования лексической компетенции. Также текст является основой для организации речевой практики (предлагается составить диалог или выразить свое мнение в процессе обсуждения проблематики текста). Часть предметного материала оформлена не в текстовом виде, а в виде упражнений на заполнение пропусков или соотнесение частей предложения, это позволяет, с одной стороны, повысить насыщенность урока профессиональной лексикой, а с другой стороны, задействовать когнитивные способности студентов в большей мере. Задания поискового и исследовательского характера с представлением результатов в виде устного высказывания или презентации способствуют совершенствованию речевой компетенции, сформированной у студентов при обучении всем видам речевой деятельности.

Курс (6 юнитов) рассчитан на 72 академических часа основной образовательной программы магистратуры, из них 34 часа занятий проводятся в аудитории под руководством преподавателя, а 34 часа отводятся магистрантам на самостоятельную работу. Каждый юнит рассчитан на 4 часа аудиторной работы и 6 часов самостоятельной работы.

В элементах специализации 54.04.01 «Дизайн интерьера» и «Дизайн пространственной среды» много общего. Это касается принципов дизайна, обязанностей и карьерных возможностей дизайнера, способов и методов ведения бизнеса и др. Различия можно выделить в примерах проектных решений. Это позволило автору-составителю создать одно пособие, и ведущий преподаватель сможет выбирать юниты в зависимости от того, группу какого профиля он обучает. Для профиля «Дизайн интерьера» рекомендуются следующие 6 юнитов:

«Дизайн пространственной среды» рекомендуется также использовать 6 юнитов:

CONTEXT

1.Warm-up.

a)There has been considerable debate within the world of design education in recent times about the value of historical study in relation to interior design. Nowadays, it is generally accepted that the development of the major architectural and interior styles provides an immensely worthwhile area of study for the design student. Could you explain why?

b)The profession of interior design is a relatively new one, since historically the differences between architects, craftsmen, upholsterers and interior decorators have tended to be blurred. Nowadays the interior industry is achieving recognition

throughout the world. What are the reasons for that?

Since the walls of caves were first decorated with primitive paintings, it has been a natural instinct for humans to embellish their environment. For many people, the design, decoration and refurbishment of a home provide a wonderful outlet for creativity. In recent years, the media has played a key part in educating and informing the general public about all aspects of interior design. This has stimulated a great deal of interest in the subject as a whole, and has resulted in more discerning shoppers and clients in the interior design marketplace. As the pace of life continues to accelerate, there has been more emphasis on the home as a retreat, and the look and ambience of the home environment have become more important to individuals. In some sections of society, the home is also viewed as a status symbol, the ultimate expression of wealth and style.

Globally, interior design is considered to be a growth industry, although since it is at the luxury end of the service market it is inevitably prey to economic ups and downs. Traditionally, the building industry has been a good barometer of a country’s economy and when that area of business is damaged by a downturn, the interiors industry is often affected in turn. This should not discourage anyone from entering the interior design profession, however, since there are excellent opportunities for career progression and specialization in the industry. Furthermore, the practical and creative skills acquired through a design education make graduates highly employable in a number of different fields.

Once the project is under way, the designer will be working with individuals from many trades, including builders, plumbers, heating engineers, electricians, joiners, plasterers, decorative paint specialists, wallpaper hangers, flooring contractors, curtain makers, upholsterers and many others.

The practice of interior design has had to change radically over the last fifty years to adapt to today’s requirements. Once the field of the talented, creative amateur, it is now a profession in its own right, requiring its practitioners to have technical

knowledge combined with creative flair and the ability to deal with every aspect of a project. We are now seeing the rise of the interior designer, well-qualified to maximize the use of space, introduce innovative materials and finishes, and discreetly incorporate the now essential technology.

The Professional Interior Designer is qualified by education, experience, and examination to enhance the function and quality of interior spaces. The role of the interior designer is multifaceted. To cope with this, a designer needs to be efficient and disciplined, with good business skills, as well as flexible, creative and artistic. Interior design is a people-oriented industry, involving collaboration not only with clients but with other professionals, specialists and suppliers, and it is vital that the designer is a good communicator.

Market segmentation and specialization

Traditionally, interior design has been divided into two main categories: residential and commercial. As the name implies, residential interior design focuses on the planning and specification of interior materials and products used in private homes. Residential interior designers must be aware of issues such as child safety, family traffic patterns, wiring and cable requirements, switching and security systems, as well as space requirements for home cinema electronics.

Commercial interior design focuses on the planning and design of public buildings and businesses, which can be anything from shops and restaurants to museums and hospitals. Historically, when a new profession emerges, specialisms develop in due course. Some designers concentrate on a specific area, such as entertainment (theatres, concert halls, theme parks and so forth), governmental or institutional, healthcare, hospitality (hotels, restaurants, bars, clubs and so on), offices, and retail (boutiques, department stores, shopping malls).

Developers understand these days that quality design can mean the difference between profit and loss; where in the past the budget for the interior design element of a developed scheme would have been minimal, it is now regarded as a sound investment. Many developers are looking to sell lifestyles through interior design and are introducing luxury branding, be it heritage-based or contemporary chic. This can result in challenging and stimulating projects for designers.

Some European practices have built up good contacts overseas in areas such as the Middle East and concentrate their operations there, while other practices might take on work in a number of different countries. A practice might specialize in a particular area, such as kitchens, bathrooms or nurseries.

There are many different types and sizes of design practices. In some instances an interior design practice may operate as part of a larger architectural practice. Many of the larger practices carry out commercial work only, while

smaller and medium-sized set-ups may take on residential work but also the occasional boutique hotel, restaurant or suite of executive offices. In much of Europe, particularly the UK, it is unusual to find very large interior design practices. There are many successful operations with ten employees or even sole traders.

In contrast to the increasing tendency to specialize, some design boundaries are becoming blurred as fashion designers, for example, have started to design product ranges for interiors such as glassware, china, cutlery, bed linen and table linen. Likewise, many interior designers are beginning to encompass furniture, product or even fashion design in their work. Interior designers are increasingly involved in promoting style, and in commercial projects they may be required to contribute to a company image through graphics or other types of branding.

7.A successful designer in any discipline, having established a good brand name has the perfect platform from which to develop an individual design range. Search the Internet and make a presentation on the examples of:

The topography at the first proposed building site isn’t suitable. The terrain is too hilly. Some slopes have very steep grades. Making them level will take a lot of work, which will be expensive. Plus, the vegetation needs to be cleared and that can make the slopes unstable.

The second building site has a better landscape for residential development. It’s mostly flat. The area does rise on the north end. However, the grade is minor and it wouldn’t be a problem. This area also has some vegetation but it can be cleared to create an open space.

Located approximately 3,5 miles NE of S in M county, the lot is accessed by an all-weather county road that dead ends at the property making it very private. The rolling terrain is very scenic with multiple creek drainages lined with live oaks. There are spectacular views of the mountains to the N of the property. The property is very well watered with two strong water wells. In 2018 the owner installed new water lines and upgraded the water wells with new pump equipment. Also included in this scenic property is a nice sized pond with small dock. The property is perfect for weekend getaways or a quiet place to settle down near a small town away from a big city.
