.pdfSarah: Jobs like journalists, psychologists, and architects are not in high demand there.
Mark: Oh wow, I had no idea. What about Australia? Sarah: Retail salesperson is the most common part-time
job, while technician and tradesperson in construction are the most common full-time jobs.
Mark: That makes sense. According to Google, the most searched for job in Kenya is United Nations worker.
Sarah: Really? I wonder why...
Mark: Apparently, whether it's a peacekeeper, development expert, or secretary doesn't matter.
Sarah: Hmm, interesting. What about China?
Mark: The manufacturing industry is very popular there, but the service industry is also big.
Sarah: Cool. And India?
Mark: IT is the top job sector, with many businesses outsourcing their work there.
Sarah: So, there must be a lot of job opportunities. What about research?
Mark: Research is actually growing quickly in all these countries we've talked about.
Sarah: Sounds like a promising field to go into.

Unemployment as a global issue
Pre reading activities

Reading activities

1.What is the rate of unemployment in developed countries compared to the developing ones?
2.Discuss the issues on unemployment in the Middle East, Central and Western Asia, and Eastern Europe.
3.How long has Australia been suffering from unemployment problems?
4.What is an unemployment rate in Japan?
Almost all the countries in the world are suffering from unemployment. The rate of unemployment is low in the developed countries compared to the developing and the underdeveloped ones.
In the Middle East where unemployment for this year is projected at 7,8 %, one-third of the almost 5 million people without jobs are women even though they represent just 16 % of the labor force. In Central and Western Asia, the regional jobless rate is expected to remain at 8,5 % in 2018 and 2019, with vulnerable employment affecting about 30 % of workers.
In Eastern Europe falling jobless rates in nations such as Poland, Ukraine and Slovakia, the Czech Republic.
83
In Northern, Southern and Western Europe unemployment is to decrease from 8,4 % in 2017 to 7,7 % in 2017 and 7,4 % in 2019. The largest overall improvements, of the order of two percentage points, are likely to be seen in Spain and Greece (14,6 % and 21,1 % estimated respectively this year). In Italy, France and Portugal unemployment rates have been declining in the years following the debt crises and will continue to do so in 2019. In Ireland and in the UK, they should remain stable at around 6 % and 4 % each.
Australia has been suffering from unemployment problems for a long time, precisely thirty years starting from 1940. Australian government has reduced the rate of unemployment significantly. Presently the rate of unemployment is only 4,4 %. In Australia unemployment means work without pay for at least one hour in a week, provided that the eligible worker is actively searching for job during the period.
Although unemployment rate in Japan is low compared to the other developed countries in the world but still, it is a serious concern for the Government. The unemployment rate has been fluctuating over the last few years. In 2017, the unemployment rate came down to 4.1%, which was a record. So, it is visible that the rate of unemployment is showing a decreasing trend, which is a great achievement of the Japanese government.
