6.2.14\ Tumor Seeding

6.2.14.1\ Discussion

Ventriculoperitoneal shunts can rarely serve as a conduit for tumor dissemination. Various intracranial tumors can metastasize to the abdomen via the shunts, including glioblastoma, PNET,

and germinoma, among others. Conversely, intracranial spread of intra-abdominal tumors into the intracranial compartment via the shunts has been reported. Cross-sectional imaging can be used to localize and characterize the metastatic deposits (Fig. 6.51).
