The distinction of [a:]/[a]-[ǽ] doesn’t exist, hat [hat]

In words like arm, after, grass [ε] is preferable than [a:] e.g. [εftə]

Length is not a distinctive feature of Scottish English vowels. So pairs like pool – pull, cot – caught are not distinguished. It should be noted? However, that vowel are longer in final stressed open syllables than elsewhere.

[ə:] doesn’t occur since Scottish English is rhotic, it preserves post – vocalic [r] e.g. bird [bə:d] – [bird], hurt [hə:t] – [h۸rt]
