Reasons

i:

a:

[A:] is changed into [ǽ]. Dance [dǽns], chance [tSǽns]

‘al’ in spelling=[a:] e.g. talk [ta:k], call [ka:l], all [a:l]

-Strong emphasizing of the endings of the word. E.g. coal =coil, hole=’oil

-shortening (vowels are short but very clear, e.g. ‘nose’ and ‘knows’ which in standart English are pronounced very similarly are quite different in Yorkshire)

-narrowing of mophtongisation of diphtongs. E.g. bay [be:], plate [ple:t], boat [bo:t]

o:

Double ‘o’ is pronounced as if there was an ‘I’ following, boot= booit, and some other similar combinations are found: coal=coil, hole=’oil

u:

ə:

In broad Tyneside accent [ə:] is changed into [o:] e.g. first [fo:st], shirt [So:t]

i

[i] in final position sounds like [i:] e.g. city [siti] – [siti:]

e

Monophtongisation or narrowing of [ei] e.g. bay [be:], plate [ple:t]

Or changing into opening diphtong [ie] e.g. bay [bie], plate [pliet]

ai

[ai] is [εi] e.g. right [rεit]

Words which in RP have [au] may have [u:] e.g. about [əbu:t

ou

“ou”, “ow” = [əu] e.g. know [nəu]

εə

əu

Monophtongisation or narrowing of [əu] e.g. boat [bo:t]

Or changing into opening diphtong [uo] e.g. boat [buot]

[۸] is realized as [u] e.g. love [l۸v] – [luv]
