Cell culture model of atherosclerosis

Biomicrofluidics 5, 032006 (2011)

CONCLUSIONS

In summary, we developed an in vitro cell culture model of atherosclerosis where realistic replication of mechanical stresses seen in regions of disturbed flow are accurately replicated. Proof of concept studies clear demonstrate structural and functional differences in HAECs cultured under normal and disturbed flow conditions confirming the ability of this system to accurately mimic the in vivo mechanical loading environment.
