A gardening or garden trowel is a multipurpose garden tool with a blade of metal or polymer and a handle. The blade may be attached to the handle with a curve or lift, as in a shovel, or straight, as in a spade. Sometimes they are, in fact, described as miniature shovels or referred to as hand spades. Long-handled versions allow the user to avoid stooping and bending.
The shape of the blade may also differ, with some being more rounded while others come to a point. Blunter tools are better for scooping and mixing, while trowels with a point excel in digging. Most basic types are fairly broad, but some have a narrower design, similar to a transplanter, and some of these, like transplanters, are marked with graduated measurements.
A trowel can serve many purposes – cultivating the soil in a small ar-

They are often sold in garden sets along with several other garden hand tools, such as a cultivator and a garden fork. There are several types of
specialty garden tools, including a weeding trowel which can fit between cracks in pavement, and ОvОЧ К spОМТПТМ “НКЧНОХТШЧ ЭrШаОХ.” AЧШЭСОr spe-

A ceramic tile cutter is one of several devices used for cutting or breaking ceramic tile to fit each tile square to a specified area on a floor, wall, or countertop. Strikers, glass cutters, tilesaws, and snips are all examples of ceramic tile cutters that are used every day by tile installers. Each one is ideal for specific types of jobs and circumstances, so the tool used will depend on the situation.
Tile snips are commonly used for tiles that need to fit around tight areas and or be cut into angled shapes. One would use this type of tile cutter when a flooring tile needs to fit around fixtures, cabinets, or pipes, and small cuts need to be made. Snips are used by cutting away small bits of tile at a time into a pre-drawn shape. Only tiny bits should be cut at once, to ensure that the tile does not break or crumble; thus ruining the shape. The edges should then be sanded to smooth them down to the exact shape.
Another kind of ceramic tile cutter is the striker. This version uses a wheel with a metal blade to score a straight line onto the tile. After the initial score is made, the tile can be snapped in half in a straight line. Common glass cutters can be used in the same manner with similar results. This option works best for tiles that
will be laid against a wall or other straight area, but need to be smaller than a full tile’s аТНЭС. TСТs ШpЭТШЧ Тs ТНОКХ ПШr sТЭЮКЭТШЧs аСОrО ШЧХв К ПОа ЭТХОs ЧООН ЭШ ЛО
cut.
For larger jobs, a wet tile saw may be the best ceramic tile cutter to use. This option uses a sharp diamond blade to cut through the tile quickly and efficiently, with water to catch any dust that is created as a result. The tile saw is not only a precision ceramic tile cutter, but also the easiest method for cutting tiles in a variety of styles and shapes. This works best when several tiles need to be cut at once, whether in straight lines or at angles or other curved shapes.
14
To find the right ceramic tile cutter, speak with personnel at a local hardware or home improvement store to discuss the job at hand and get recommendations on the best cutter to use. Most employees of such stores have experience in various aspects of construction and flooring installation, and should be able to give accurate advice or refer a book or reference with the correct information.

a drafting table. It may also guide a set square to draw vertical or d i- agonal lines. Its name comes from its resemblance to the letter T. T- squares come in varying sizes, common lengths being 18 inches (460 mm), 24 inches (610 mm), 30 inches (760 mm), 36 inches (910 mm) and 42 inches (1,100 mm).
T-squares are also used to measure and cut drywall. Drywall T- squares are typically made of aluminium and have a 48-inch (1,200 mm) long tongue.
Higher-end table saws are often equipped with T-square fences. These table saw fences are attached to a rail only on the front side of the table unlike traditional fences which clamp to both the front and the rear of the table.
A T-square has two components – the long shaft called the

A hawk is a tool used to temporarily hold a viscous material so that the user can apply that material to a surface using a different tool. It consists of a board about 25 cm square with a perpendicular handle fixed centrally on the reverse. The user holds the hawk horizontally with his or her non-dominant hand and applies the material on the hawk with a tool held in the other hand. Hawks are most often used by plasterers along with a finishing trowel to apply a smooth finish of plaster to a wall. Brick point-
ers use a hawk to hold
mortar while they work. Hawks are also used to hold joint com-
pound for skim coating

How To Plaster - Use a Plasterers Spot board
A plaster hawk allows a plasterer to transport small portions of plaster from the mixing area to the work area. A plaster hawk consists of a large, typically 12-inch, square of metal. A handle pokes straight out from one side of the square, allowing a plasterer to hold the metal square in a flat upright position. When held in this manner, the hawk provides a flat surface onto which plaster may be mounded and carried from a bucket to the wall. The hawk is held in one hand while the other hand applies the plaster with a trowel.
On The DIY School Plastering Courses we use plastering boards that we have made ourselves and this is fine for the sort of amounts you will use as an early DIYer.

tion of water into the surface. The board sits on a work bench.
For the professional plasterer or DIYer tackling larger jobs as their experience grows so the need for a bigger board will grow as a stand that is easier to fold away and transport. Many purpose made boards and stands are available.
Always keep your spot board clean during and after a job. Both surfaces and sides should remain free of dry or drying plaster.
Before putting each mix of plaster on the board ensure that it is moistened to prevent the plaster at the bottom of the mix drying out.
If after time the board starts to break up then replace it to ensure that your skim does not turn in to wood chip!
