14. Replace the infinitives in brackets by the Past Indefinite or the Past Continuous:

16. Express the same idea using the past progressive tense forms to denote a frequently repeated habitual action

In the past:

Example: The brothers used to quarrel all the time when they were children.

The brothers were always quarrelling when they were children.

1. Becky used to answer back when she was a little girl. 2. Helen used to shout at the top of her voice when she talked to her friends. 3. Tom used to come home very late on Fridays because he worked overtime on that day. 4. Alice used to put off some difficult work to the very last moment. 5. Denis used to put things off last term, too. 6. She used to smile all the time, that’s why nobody could take her seriously. 7. He used to ask difficult questions to answer when he was a boy. 8. Ann was very fond of cooking. She used to do something in the kitchen all the time. 9. Isabel used to laugh all the time as she used to try to attract attention at all costs.
