The future continuous tense

Exercise 21. Make up your own conclusions using the Future Continuous Tense. Example: I’m going to read books from 9 until 10 o’clock this evening.

So at 9 30 I ……… will be reading books.....................

1) Tomorrow afternoon I’m going to deliver a lecture from 3 o’clock until 4.30.

So at 4 o’clock tomorrow I ……………………………………................

2) Ann is going to study from 6 o’clock until 9.30 this evening.

3) We are going to make an experiment tomorrow. It’ll take from 10 until 12 o’clock

Exercise 22. Answer using the Future Continuous Tense:

Model: - What will you be doing at this time tomorrow (to fly to Paris)

- I’ll be flying to Paris at this time.

1) Who will you be talking to at 10 o’clock? (the Dean). 2) What will the teacher be doing while the postgraduates are writing a test? (to check their home assignments). 3) What will they be doing the whole day tomorrow? (to have a rest). 4) Will he be translating an article or reading a book from 3 to 5? (to translate an article). 5) Where will you be living at this time next year? (in Moscow). 6) What will you be doing from 5 to 7 o'clock p.m.? (your idea)

Exercise 23. Put the verbs into the correct form: future simple or future continuous.

1) He …………(deliver) a report at the conference at 10 o'clock. 2) When .......... (you/go) to the library to prepare for the seminar? 3) We … (re-equip) our lab with up-to-date machines from August to November. 4) We .… (drive) to Saratov next Monday morning. 5) This time next year I .. Exercise 24. Share your plans with your group-mates and ask them in return:

- What will you be doing tomorrow at 6 o’clock (all morning, next Sunday, at 10 o’clock on Wednesday, from 7 to 9 tonight)?

The present perfect tense

Exercise 25. You are writing a letter to a friend and giving news about people you both know. Use the words given to make sentences and put the verb into the correct form.

Example: George / find a new job. .......... George has found a new job........

Dear Chris, lots of things have happened since I last wrote to you.

Exercise 26. Ask your groupmate about things he/she has done in his/her life. Use the words in brackets to make your questions.

Exercise 27. Give negative answers to your group mate’s questions. Put verbs in the Present Perfect Tense:

Model: - Are the engineers still instal­ling the new equipment? - No, they have already installed it.

1) Are they still designing a new apparatus? 2) Are they still discussing the conference program? 3) Is the professor still delivering a lecture? 4) Is George still translating a scientific paper from English into Russian? 5) Are the students still preparing for their exams?

Exercise 28. Answer the questions making use of the given words:

Model: - Have you ever been to Madrid? (Rome)

- No. I’ve never been there. But I’ve been to Rome.

- Has he ever studied Spanish? (Italian)

- No, he has never studied Spanish. But he’s studied Italian.

1) Have you ever attended lectures by Professor Ivanov? (Professor Smirnov) 2) Has she ever visited London? (Edinburgh) 3) Have you ever seen this painting? (its reproduction) 4) Have you ever received a letter from her? (a postcard) 5) Has your father ever travelled abroad? (in this country)

Exercise 29. Answer as in the model:

Model: - When are you going to discuss the task?

- We’ve just discussed it.

1) When are you going to solve this problem? 2) When are you going to see your scientific supervisor? 3) When are you going to hand in your essays? 4) When are you going to translate this article? 5) When are you going to read this book?

Exercise 30. Put the verb into the correct form: Present Perfect or Past Simple.

Exercise 31. Make your own conversations according to the model:

A. What are you going to do tonight?

B. I’m not sure. I really want to see a good movie. I haven’t seen a good movie in a long time.

A. What movie are you going to see?

B. I don’t know. Have you seen any good movie recently?

A. Yes, I have. I saw a very good movie just last week.

B. Really? What movie did you see?

A. I saw «Match Point».

B. Did you like it?

C. I loved it! I think it’s one of the best movies, I’ve ever seen.

Use other verbs, objects, titles and places instead of the underlined, such as to see - a play, to read - a book, to eat at - a restaurant, to go to - a concert, etc. Think of your own suggestions and use them in your dialogs.
