This enabled us to make the following conclusion:
To summarize, I would like to say/ to repeat the main points.
Now let me repeat /summarize the main points again
I just want to know ... / I’d like to know ...
Could you/would you explain ...
What do you think of ...? / What is your idea of ...?
That’s a good question.
I’m glad you’ve asked that question / You have raised a very interesting point.
I don’t think / I’m not sure I understand your question.
I didn’t catch you. Could you say it again?
Well, I don’t think I can reply to your question at the moment.
Your question is difficult to answer. I hope further work may help to clarify it.
Please keep a strict timing of 5 minutes and don’t wander away from the subject.
Our time is up. / I am closing the discussion. / I declare the discussion closed.
We have no more time left, so I have to close the discussion.
I’d like to thank again ... for his comprehensive review of the problem/for his excellent communication and the persuasive way in which he dealt with the questions and comments.
I appreciate very much the contributions by the other researchers.
I would like to thank everybody for an informative and persuasive discussion.

A. Presenting a paper.
1. Read and translate the text.
Davis: Thank you, Mr. Chairman. I am happy to have this opportunity to present my paper at this working group session. The purpose of this study is to delineate the fields of nanorobots application. It is well known that modern science and engineering are in need of robotics technology for solving different problems. These problems require tiny, invisible technical devices called ‘nanorobots’. Made from nanomaterials they don’t exceed a few nanometers, which is comparable with a size of a molecule. Research has shown that they must possess the functions of movement, processing and transmission of information and execution of programmes. Having studied the advanced theory we have come to the conclusion that nanorobots must carry out a double sided-communication: to react to the acoustics signals and be able to be charged from without by means of sound or electrical vibrations. Microrobots can solve important tasks, they can make a revolution in the chemical industry, exterminate hazardous wastes, and even create necessary infrastructure for living on other planets. But still today the most promising sphere of their application is medicine. Man’s body contains a large number of natural mechanisms so it would seem to suggest the idea of nanorobots. Nanorobots can be simply injected into blood or lymph. But the question when they will come into the reality like the Internet and computers still remains open. To summarize, I would like to say that the step for creation of nanorobots has been made and the century of nanorobots is approaching very fast. With this I’d like to finish. If there are any questions I’ll be glad to answer them. Thank you.
2. Answer the questions:
a. What is the aim of the paper?
b. What problems is Mr. Davis raising in his report?
c. What are the spheres of microrobots’ applications?
3. Study the phrases from “Increase your vocabulary” and choose those that can be used for:
a) Formulating the aim
b) Pointing out the interest in a particular problem
c) Finishing a presentation
Using these structures practice formulating the aim of a paper, the data obtained and a particular problem in your current research.
4. Prepare a presentation of your paper (3 - 5 minutes).
