A. Giving an opening address
1. Read and translate the text using the dictionary if necessary.
Chairman: Distinguished guests, ladies and gentlemen, dear colleagues! It is a great honour for me as Chairman of the Organizing Committee to welcome you to the International Conference on Nanotechnologies Development. I would like to give a special welcome to the President of the Royal Society, Professor of Cosmology and Astrophysics at the University of Cambridge and Visiting Professor at Leicester University, Martin Rees, who has found the time to attend our meeting. We are pleased that so many researchers from all over the world, scientists with different points of view and backgrounds of training have come to the conference. And we are also glad to extend a particular welcome to all our guests.
Two years have passed since our last meeting in Germany. This short time has turned out to be very fruitful. There has been remarkable progress in our understanding of nano-objects study methods. However, our knowledge in this field still remains incomplete.
Our main goal in holding this Conference is to discuss various aspects of nano- technologies application. The range of subjects to be considered is quite large. But it is our hope that the Conference will show the current state of things in this rapidly developing area and stimulate new ideas. I wish you success. Thank you.
Now I’d like to give the floor to the Chairman of the Scientific Committee, Dr. Wilson, who will introduce you to the activities scheduled for these three days.
