II. What do you need to take into consideration while choosing a career?

Certainly, choosing a career, you should take into consideration your academic achievements and your character. You need to know if you are suitable for this profession or not, if you have some traits of character necessary for the job and if you will be able to develop them in the process of training and education. I think that diligence, determination, initiative and ability to compromise are important in any profession.

III. What questions will you ask your future employer about your future job?

My questions will be:

1. Will I wear a uniform at work?

2. Do I have to work long hours?

3. What are the disadvantages of this job?

4. What is the salary?

IV. Give your classmate some advice on how to achieve his goal and find a good job in future.

I think, it’s necessary to set a goal and analyze how to achieve it. My advice is:

1. You should do well at school, be attentive at the lessons, do homework and not be late for classes.

2. I advise you to attend optional lessons in …. It will prepare you better for entrance examinations.

3. You had better work hard and systematically in all subjects at school. It will help you to get a good GPA and enter a prestigious university.

V. Some people think that it’s necessary to speak a foreign language to get a good job. Do you agree with them?

I agree with this point of view. Foreign languages develop you as a personality, make you a well-read, intelligent and interesting person.

Today English has become the world language. It offers good job opportunities almost anywhere in the world. English is the main language of communication in science, computer technology, mass entertainment, international tourism, business, diplomacy and cultural contacts. I think I will need English for … (my work, travelling, listening to music, watching films, socializing on the Net …)

CARD 9

I. Let’s talk about advantages and disadvantages of life in the city.

Life in the city has both advantages and disadvantages. It depends on people to choose where to live.

I think, that young people all over the world choose to live in big cities. A big city offers better job and education opportunities, a variety of entertainments, shops, good medical service. It’s never boring to live there. Big cities are places of strong attraction for tourists. You are always in the centre of all events.

But big cities in any country have problems. People in big cities have to put up with crowds of people everywhere, with constant noise and pollution, traffic jams, a hasty pace of life (стремительная скорость жизни) and criminality. The majority of the population live in blocks of flats, which are noisy and impersonal (безликие). All you can see from your window is the sky or other blocks of flats. Children have less freedom but more stress and temptations (соблазны).

II. Do you think that life in the country has more advantages than in the city?

Country life also has both advantages and disadvantages. On the one hand, there is less pollution, the air is cleaner, the view from your window is beautiful. People are friendlier and there is less crime. Life is cheaper in the country than in town.

But country life has disadvantages, too. You feel isolated from the exciting world of big cities. There’s little possibility of going to the theatre, cinema, disco, sports club. Shopping is a big problem. I think, everything is quiet, beautiful but a little bit boring here.

III. What will you ask a British teenager about his/her place of living?

My questions will be:

1. Where do you live?

2. Do you have all modern conveniences?

3. What is the biggest disadvantage in your place of living?

4. Would you like to move if you had a chance?

IV. If you were a city mayor, what changes would you make to your city? Give your advice.

My advice will be:

  1. To repair the roads in our city

  2. To create special amusement parks for children

  3. To enlarge green zones in the city centre

  4. To remove chemical enterprises out of the city

  5. To involve foreign investment in the city development

V. Do you like the place where you are living now?

Personally, I experienced both living in the small country, where I go every summer to visit my grandparents, and living in the city, where I live now. In my opinion, life in a country is quite and slowly. Therefore, it is more suitable for children and old people. I prefer living in a big city, where I can have a large number of opportunities.
