The city of beautiful bridges.

St. Petersburg is the city of beautiful bridges. The city is called Northern Venice because there are 65 rivers, arms and canals there with decorated bridges. Eight bridges across the Neva River open every night in summer giving together with the sunset and magnificent buildings a picturesque view. I think, that most beautiful is Anichkov bridge. It was built across the river Fontanka. Construction was began in 1838 and lasted during almost ten years. It has received the name in honour of the commander of Admiralty battalion M.O. Anichkov. Anichkov bridge was designed

by the engineer Getman. The material used for construction was granite. The bridge was decorated by sculptures on the theme "Taming of wild hors." The author of these sculptures is Clodt. During Second World War the sculptures were put away and saved. So we can admire them now. I think that Anichkov bridge is decoration of Nevsky avenue.
