Пример 1.

Найдите оборот, содержащий причастие, инфинитив или герундий. Определите его роль в предложении. Переведите предложения.

1. Engine drivers will use special television devices designed for application in railroad transport.

2. When coated with some conducting material the object becomes a conductor.

3. We know the pressure to decrease as altitude increases.

4. This method is known to be effective.

5. The explanation lies in the product being more sable.

6. He objected to the goods being paid in advance.

Пример 2.

Перевести предложение.

1. In the early days of the telephone, (operators working in the exchanges | made all the connections between callers) by hand.

Разделим предложение на смысловые группы:

In the early days of the telephone…—группа обстоятельства начинается с предлога in;

...operators working in the exchanges...—группа подлежащего выражена существительным во множественном числе с окончанием -sи определением —причастным оборотом;

...made all the connections between callers...—группа сказуемого с прямым и косвенным дополнениями начинается с глагола в личной форме;

...by hand —группа обстоятельства начинается с предлога by. Как видно из примера, каждая смысловая группа имеет свои характерные признаки.

Необходимо в первую очередь разделить предложение на смысловые группы подлежащего и сказуемого, поскольку эти два главных члена предложения несут основную смысловую нагрузку и определяют содержание предложения.

2. The first pure discrete systems available were reel-to-reel tapes. The first pure discrete systems available...- группа подлежащего; ...were reel-to-reel tapes -группа сказуемого.

3. Функции it, one в предложении.

1. It is necessary to study.

2. It is important that the test be repeated.

3. I have just told them it was your advice.

4. One has to be careful while testing the new machine.

5. The simplest case is one in which this device is mentioned.

4. Перевести предложение и определить чем выражено подлежащее.

1. Electrons forming an atom are in motion.

2. A force resisting device was taken here.

3. To build good roads is one of the most important tasks.

4. Carrying this test successfully was helped by the investigations of our scientists.

5. The field of telecommunication has; ....A reel of tape one inch wide | weighs ...;This binary mode of operation of the components | provides ... .

5. Перевести предложения и найти сказуемое.

The average cultivated man probably uses about 30000words.

Morse invented the Morse code.

Analog computers also require a program...

This led naturally to detailed specification.

Следует отметить, что более распространенной формой сказуемого является сочетание вспомогательного или модального глагола со смысловым глаголом в соответствующей форме.

Примеры:

The semiconductor material is used to...;

The two cases must be considered separately...;

It should be noted...;

It may be desirable to use still broader definition of communication.

6. Перевести и найти смысловую группу сказуемого

Perhaps the most important mode of word formation in this field is the application of new meanings to already existing words.
