Glad to Meet You
My friend’s name is Victor. He is a winner of the “Welcome to the United Kingdom” TV game. He comes to Britain and gets acquainted with Emma Goodwin. Let’s listen to Victor.
Hello! First of all I’d like to say that I am very lucky to be in this country and I’m glad to meet you.
Let me introduce myself. My first (Christian) name is Victor. My last name (surname) is Koval. I am from Ukraine, from the Western Ukraine, to be more precise. I was born in the Precarpathian Region in the ancient town of Halych. I spent my childhood there. Now I live in Ivano-Frankivsk, the regional center of Precarpathia. I rent a room in one of the residential areas in the suburbs. I am a first-year student at the Ivano-Frankivsk National Technical University of Oil and Gas.
I was born on the first of July 19xx so I am 18 years old. I was born into the family of engineers. At the age of seven I began school. I went to High (comprehensive secondary) School # 1 in my home town. I left school last year. At school I was good at Sciences. My favourite subjects were Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology. As I am a technically-minded person (at least my parents think so) I wanted to take the course of engineering cybernetics at Kyiv University after leaving school. But competition for a University place was rather stiff and I wasn’t admitted. Then I worked and pursued my education at a vocational technical school. I was also a student of the Preparatory Department of the University of Oil and Gas, for both my parents and my friends advised me to enter this higher institution. Choosing a University course was not easy. My parents insisted on Documentation and Information Studies, but I decided to choose Computer Engineering.
This summer I was luckier: I did well in my entrance exams and was enrolled a student. Now I am a full time first-year student of the Computer Science Department. I’m going to work as a software designer.
My mother tongue is Ukrainian. I can speak Russian and Polish fluently. I have been learning English for three years, but my English is still poor.
I am fond of reading books on history. I play football and go in for swimming. I enjoy life and fun. I am keen on good music and I am interested in politics. Unfortunately, I neither sing nor dance. I don’t travel so much as I’d like to either, but I go out as often as possible and make friends faster than anybody else in my family. My best friends are my former school-mates. I like independence. I want to do my own thing, make my own friends, and live my own life.
I am not married.

A Résumé / a Curriculum Vitae (c.V.)
Résumé (n) - a brief account of one's professional or work experience and qualifications, often submitted with a job application.
The American Heritage College Dictionary
A résumé is a summary of a person's experience presented in an easy-to-read format. It must be brief and to the point, give pertinent information to prospective employers, and persuade them to consider the applicant for the job.
Personal data
The résumé includes pertinent personal data: your name, your address, your telephone number. Do not include information about your age and your marital status.
Educational background
List all the schools you have attended since high school, starting with the most recent, that is in reverse chronological order. Provide your years of attendance and the degrees you received. If you have not received a degree but will receive one, include this information. Provide your major and your minor field of study. Do not provide names of particular courses you completed unless they are particularly pertinent to the job. Include internships, work-study programs, co-op positions;cumulative grade averages and academic honours; scholarships and awards; special training cources (academic or industrial).
Work experience / work history /employment experience
List the jobs you have held. For each job, provide the dates of employment, the title of the position you held, the name and address of the company, and a brief description of you responsibilities. For your job descriptions, use strong action verbs: planned, directed, managed, assisted.
Other information
Keeping in mind that although your resume should be brief - not more than two pages - you may include additional information. If you have received scholarships or other awards, you can list these under Awards. If you have participated in activities that are directly related to your career goals, you can list them under Activities.
Résumés can be displayed and periodically updated at a job-seeker’s World Wide Web site or can be submitted to a commercial database service that functions as an electronic employment agency.
Electronic résumés are used to facilitate the screening of applicants. One significant difference of these résumés is the abundant use of nouns that are used as key words or descriptors (which can number as many as fifty).
There are various layouts for a résumé / c. v. Some examples are given below.
