Местоимение no употребляется в качестве местоимения-прилагательного перед существительными. При наличии no, а также его производных nobody(никто), nothing(ничто), nowhere(нигде) глагол ставится в утвердительной форме, так как в английском языке может быть только одно отрицание.
We saw nobody there. Мы никого не видели там.
или
We didn’t see anybody there. Мы никого не видели там.
There is nothing in the box. В коробке ничего нет.
Перед существительным в роли подлежащего обычно употребляется местоимение no, которое переводится на русский язык ни один, никакой:
No information has been received От него не получено никаких сведений.
from him.
No не употребляется в качестве местоимения-существительного; вместо него употребляется местоимение none.
- Is there a sofa in the room? - Есть ли в комнате диван?
- No, there is none. - Нет.
