Интонация (восходящий тон)

Восходящий тон выражает неопределённость или незаконченность мысли. В восходящем тоне слоги также образуют нисходящий ряд, но заканчивается этот ряд повышением голоса на последнем слоге.

Is he a doctor?

С восходящим тоном произносятся:

1. Общие вопросы:

Do you work on Sunday? Сan you read English books? Is he a teacher?

2. Первая часть альтернативного вопроса:

Do you work at a school or at the institute? Is he a doctor or an engineer?

3. Вторая часть разделительных вопросов:

It is a good book, isn’t it? He must come in time, mustn’t he?

4. Предложения, выражающие вежливую просьбу:

Sit down, please. Give me your book.

5. Все элементы перечисления, кроме последнего:

I have bought a book, a note­book and a pen.

6. Придаточные предложения, стоящие перед главным:

When I was in Moscow, I visited many museums. If the weather is fine, we shall go to the forest.

7. Незаконченные смысловые группы в предложении:

Very often the girls have dinner in the dining room.
