Конверсия
В английском языке существует большая группа двусложных слов, которые являются одновременно и глаголом, и существительным (или прилагательным). Ударение в них зависит от того, к какой части речи они относятся. Если это существительное или прилагательное, ударение в слове падает на первый слог, если слово – глагол, ударение в нем должно падать на второй слог.

Exercise 43. Read and translate the words and word combinations. Be sure you stress the proper syllable.
A price increase, total revenue would increase, to require a permit, to limit the number of permits, production limits, to limit production. Encourage presumably, inefficient high cost, costly to build, regulated by government, fixed percentage.
Exercise 44. What part of speech does each word belong to? Translate the words.

Exercise 45. Using the table of suffixes at the end of the book, add proper formant to the root compet- to get the word with the proper meaning. After having done it, consult a dictionary:
