Great Britain is one of the most highly industrialized countries in the world. The largest industrial cities if Britain are: London, Birmingham, Glasgow, Manchester, Newcastle, Liverpool, Sheffield. The district around Birmingham is a land of factories and mines. The Glasgow industrial region has many shipbuilding yards, extensive docks and textile factories. Sheffield is a big centre of steel industry, and in Manchester there are many textile factories.

Great Britain is a monarchy, the power of the Queen of Great Britain is not absolute, but constitutional. It is limited by Parliament, which consists of the House of Commons and the House of Lords. Members are elected only to the House of Commons. The Prime Minister is usually the leader of the party that has a majority in the House of Commons. That party which obtains the majority of seats in the House of Commons is called the Government and the others - Opposition.
