My studies at the university

1. I study at the Saratov State Technical University at the faculty of instrument-making and electronic technique. I am a first - year student of the correspondence department. The-course of studies lasts six years.

2. Twice a year we have an examination session - in winter and in summer. In the first year we study general subjects such as mathematics, physics, chemistiy, drawing, history of the country, English and other subjects. They are done in a written form and are sent for controlling by teachers.

3. The extra - mural students are allowed to take part in examination session if they get satisfactory marks on control works. Most of academic hours is given to making control works by students at home. To make control works successfully, extra - mural students must go to libraries for finding additional material and to consult teachers.

4. During examination sessions we do laboratory assignments, attend lectures and tutorials and at the end of each tenn we pass tests and exams

5. Thus we prepare ourselves in specialized fields of knowledge.

British Traditions, Customs and Holidays.

1. It may seem surprising the British have fewer holidays than other countries. Some of them are named Bank Holidays due to the fact that on those days the banks are closed. In England and Wales they comprise five bank "holidays (New Year's Day; Easter Monday; spring and late sumrrier holidays at the end of May and August respectively, and Boxing Day; they also have two common holidays (Good Friday and Christmas Day)). In Scotland and Northern Ireland they have six bank holidays plus two other public holidays.

2. In England Christmas is the most important of all the holidays, It is celebrated the same way as in the USA. On the 26-th of December, The Boxing Day, people traditionally give each other Christmas presents which used to come in boxes. They also like Easter. Every spring the British celebrate the festival to honour the awakening of new life in nature.

3 Each country and each nation has its own traditions and customs. We can't speak of England without speaking of them. The British carefully keep their traditions and customs. Here are some of them

4. The English are stay-at-home people. They prefer spending their days off at home with their families. People all over the world know the saying "The Englishman's home is his castle". They are fond of living in cottages with a garden round it and a fireplace inside.

5. Many traditions are connected with the Houses of Parliament: the arrival of the Queen for the state opening of Parliament sittings; the traditional woolsack in the House of Lords and the ceremony of changing the guard in front of the Buckingham Palace, the residence of the Queen.

6. Sport is also a tradition among the British. The traditional kinds of sports arc golf, cricket, lawn tennis, horseraces and boat races.

7. It's a wise thing to keep to traditions. It is necessary as it helps educate and bring up children, respect the ancestors and enrich life.
