1. The Southern group (Kentish, South-Western).

• Kentish – from OE Kentish, but extended

• S-W: West & East Saxon (ES: basis of the London dialect (12-13^th) Gloucester, the London.

2. The group of Midland (Central) dialects (from OE Mercian)

• West Midland (South-West Midland & North-West Midland)

• East Midland (S-E M & N-E M)

3. The Northern dialects (OE Northumbrian) f.e. the Yorkshire and the Lancashire dialects.
