My Working Day
My name is … . I am … years old. I am a correspondent student of Kryvyi Rih Technical University, the Department of Economics (Mining Department, …).
I get up at 7 o’clock every morning. I go to the bathroom to wash and shave (бриться). Then I dress and get ready for my breakfast. My working hours begin at 9 a.m. It takes me 30 to 40 minutes to get to my work as our city is very long. I come to my office at 15 minutes to 9.
My work is very interesting but it requires much knowledge. That is why I entered the University.
The lunch time comes at 1p.m. We have lunch at the café not far from the office.
We are back to the office at 2 and work hard till 5p.m. After work I often go to the reading-room to get ready with my University assignments.
Sometimes I come home at 6 p.m. If I work at the reading-room I come home late. I have dinner and rest a little. I go to bed at about 11or even 12. It is very difficult to work and study at the same time but I want to become a good specialist in my field and make a good career.
Kryvyi Rih
I live in Kryvyi Rih. It is a modern industrial city, the center of iron ore mining. It is situated on the banks of the Ingulets and Saksagan rivers in the south east of Ukraine. Its area is about 500 square kilometers ant its length is over 120 km. The population of the city is about 700 000 people.
Kryvyi Rih was founded in 1775. The industrial development of the city began at the end of the 19th century after the discovery of rich iron ore deposits. The largest industrial enterprise is the metallurgical combine ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih. Its production is known and valued all over the world. There are also many other industrial enterprises, among them there are a lot of mines, open pits, a by-product coke plant, etc. all these enterprises contribute greatly to Ukraine’s economy.
Due to a great number of industrial enterprises the ecological situation is dangerous but the city residents do their best to improve it.
Kryvyi Rih is a large scientific and educational center. There are many research institutes, universities, colleges and technical schools. The largest university in the city is Kryvyi Rih Technical University. The scientists of the university carry out research in different branches of science and engineering.
Krivyi Rih is also a large cultural center. There are many cinemas, palaces of culture and two theatres. So, Kryvyi Rih provides good opportunities for work and rest.
The University I Study at.
I am a student of Kryvyi Rih Technical University. It is the only higher school in our country that trains specialists for the ore mining industry. It was founded in 1922. The University with its club and recreation facilities, canteens, hostels, laboratories and a big library is quite a self-contained community.
The University comprises 9 full-time departments: Mining, Civil Engineering, Information Technologies, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Geological and Ecological, Metallurgical, Transport and the department of Economics. There are chairs at the University responsible for training specialists in many specialities.
The student body of the University is about 9 000. There are a lot of men and women from foreign countries among the students of the University.
The teaching staff is about 600, among them many Doctors of Sciences.
There is also a post-graduate course with about 150 post graduates working for their scientific degrees.
There are many laboratories at the University equipped with modern installations and instruments. The students are engaged in research work in the laboratories during and after classes.
There are also sport facilities at the University, such as a stadium, gymnasiums and sports grounds. The prospects for the development of the university are very hopeful.
