Climate.
The climate of. England is rather soft because Great Britain is situated on the island surrounded by the Atlantic ocean. The climate of the U.K. is generally mild and temperate due to the influence of the Gulf Stream. The climate of Britain is usually described as cool, temperate and humid. The humid and mild climate is good for plants. The trees and flowers begin to blossom early in spring.
The climate of the British Isles is never very cold in winter and never very hot in summer. The cold air which comes to England from the continent already becomes warm when it moves across the North Sea and brings many clouds to Britain. As a rule there is no ice on the lakes and rivers in winter and snow never lies on the ground for long. It soon melts. The average temperature in January is 3-7 degrees above zero and in July 11-17 degrees above Zero. The wind may bring winter cold in spring and summer days. Sometimes it brings the whirlwinds or hurricanes. Droughts are rare. All parts of the British Isles get a lot of rain in all seasons. The English also say that they have three variants of weather: when it rains in the morning, when it rains in the afternoon or when it rains all day long. Sometimes it rains so heavily that they say: "It's raining cats and dogs." They never leave house without an umbrella or a raincoat, because even on a bright sunny day one cannot be sure it is not going to rain in a few hours.
The famous London fogs are well-known to everyone. They fall in autumn and in winter. As a rule English weather is so changeable that it is difficult for people to make their plans for a day in advance, and they often say that they have no climate but only weather. The weather is never the same two days running. The weather is the favourite topic of conversation in the U.K.
