In the history of humanity there have always been people whose actions and ideas produced a great impact on the lives of other people. They have made a great contribution to the science, culture, social life of this country. That’s why they are called outstanding.

The names of Taras Shevchenko, Lessya Ukrainka, Ivan Franko, Marko Vovchok and Hrygoriy Skovoroda won universal recognition. There’s hardly a country in the world which doesn’t have Taras Shevchenko’s poems translated into its language. Gentle melodies and deep emotions of Lessya Ukrainka’s verses are dear to poetry-lovers throughout the world.

Ukraine has also given the world many outstanding scientists. Such names as Vernandskyi, Zabo-lotnyi, Bogomolets, Sklifosovskyi, Paton, Filatov are well-known all over the world. Nowadays modern Ukrainian scientists achieved great successes in the field of mathematics, physics, biology and medicine.

Conclusions

The culture of Ukraine is unique and diverse, but over the years it has been influenced by its eastern and western neighbours, which is reflected in its architecture, music and art. Folk culture is fundamental and basic for the Ukrainian national culture. Ukrainian professional science, literature and art has been formed on it gradually. The originality of Ukrainian culture has been defined by the influence of geographical conditions, peculiarities of the historical process, as well as interaction with other ethnic cultures. An important historical stage of Ukrainian culture was the adoption of Christianity in the 10th century.

Ukrainian is the official state language; it is a language of the East Slavic subgroup of the Slavic languages. The language shares some vocabulary with the languages of the neighbouring Slavic nations, most notably with Belarusian, Polish, Russian and Slovak.

Ukrainians are of Slavic origin. About 75% of the population is ethnic Ukrainian. The largest minority group is the Russians at about 20%. Belarussians, Bulgarians, Poles, Hungarians and Romanians make up the other major minority groups Ukrainians like humour and wit and always enjoy a good joke or anecdote (a short story with an unexpected end.).

Ukraine is a place with a highly developed cultural life; especially in the major cities like Kyiv, Lviv, and Odesa. The diversity of Ukrainian cultural life will satisfy the diverse tastes of guests of the country. Traditionally famous for its classical performances including opera, ballet, drama theaters and concert halls, its historical places and art museums and galleries, its folk singers and groups, and its modern rock, pop, show business, and night clubs..

Ukraine has given the world many brilliant names in literature, history painting, music and science. Speaking about the best known Ukrainians I can’t but mention the names of T.Shevchenko, Lessya Ukrainka, Ivan Franko, M.Hrushevsky and many others who who gained fame not only in Ukraine but all over the world.
