Cruise ship jobs

Cruise ships are floating resorts - complete cities at sea. A typical cruise ship has a dozen decks and hundreds of cabins. A cruise vacation is about fun, entertainment, service and worldwide travel. There are more than 300 types of job aboard ship, and a good opportunity to travel to places you've always dreamed of and being paid for it.

The cruise lines employ students, retired people, career changers, 'people people' who enjoy working with others. Cruise lines are always hiring people with experience in hospitality, tourism, entertainment, restaurants and bars, teaching, child-care, sales, customer relations, fitness, health and beauty, healthcare, finance and administration. Cruise lines hire dependable, competent people with outgoing, positive attitudes.

To start working it’s better to familiarise with the cruise companies and get answers to such questions as where their ships travel, what facilities they have on board, what kind of passengers will be found on the ships. One can choose several jobs and compare his/her qualifications and experience with the duties and responsibilities of the job.

The candidate should sell himself. That means he should think about the specific job on offer and include all the relevant experience he has in his CV. It’s wrong to use exactly the same CV for every job he applies for. The CV should always be clear and easy to read. Then it’s better to make sure that personal details, like name, address and telephone number, appear at the top of the document. The qualifications and jobs are to be written in reverse chronological order so that the most recent appear first in the list. The candidates can emphasise their special abilities both in the workplace and outside, such as any languages to be spoken. Any relevant hobbies are to be mentioned such as team sports and voluntary work. This helps to give an idea of the personality.

The cruise industry hires year-round and seasonally. Most employees work for six to nine months with one or two months off. Many departments need extra crew in peak sailing periods.

Cruise ship pay compares well with similar jobs ashore plus a lot of money may be saved because most expenses are left behind. On board ship the room and meals are included.

Ecotourism

First of all, the word «tourism» comes from French and means «walk», «journey». Nowadays tourism is not only journey, but also one of the most profitable branches in business. Ecological tourism plays a special role in this business now. Ecological tourism means traveling to the places with the wild nature to get knowledge of nature as well as of cultural, ethnic peculiarities of the region without breaking the whole ecosystems. Ecotourism creates economic conditions under which the development of nature is profitable for local people.

To be called ecological tourism should meet certain requirement. Tour is ecological if the transport, which tourists use, is ecological, if local food is healthy. Ecological tour means that high-qualified guides show tourists interesting, natural and cultural landscapes. Tour programmer includes ecological paths, local, natural museums, ecotechnica! farms and discussing ecological problems. The garbage is not thrown scramble, but it is gathered and sent to recycling.

Hotels, camps, cabins and other houses for tourists are situated in such places where they don’t violate normal ecological development of landscapes. Local people take part in tourism and get the chance to improve traditional economy. Tourists pay much attention to local traditions and want to learn and understand them and also do as much as possible to solve local ecological problems.

The nature in Russia has great potentional for ecotourism. Here you can still find regions with traditional economy. Nevertheless great untouched territories are not suitable for tourists because of severe weather in it. Ecological tourism gives a nice decision, creates work places and provides high income of population, and at the same time it preserves wild nature of Russia.

Ecotourism can be developed in northwestern territories of Russia: in Korelia, Arhangelsk and Myrmansk regions. Korelia is often called lungs of Europe, because more than a half of its territory is covered with forests and the other half - with lakes and rivers.

The largest in Europe Ladozskoe Lake has attractive Valaamsky archipelago. For tourists it is interesting to visit the national park “Vodlozersky”, which is the biggest in Europe. In Arhangelsk and Myrmansk regions there are seaside villages where you can find ancient Russian style of life.

Salovetsky museum and Kandolaksky Park give a nice chance to know the nature of the north. In centre of Russia there are also many attractive places for ecotourists. For example, the central forest national biosphere park, situated in Tverskoy region, is famous for its fir-tree forests, which are 500 years old.

Ecotourism in Russia is developing rapidly now. In 1994 tour operators offered only seven tours that could hardly be called ecological. In that year ecotourism department was organized in Russian tourism Academy. In 1997 a special association dealing with ecotourism development

“Dersu Uzala” was established. In 2001 Russian association of ecotourism was created. Today this association leads in ecotourism development and through its support tourists companies offer more than a hundred ecological tours.
