Optimistic: Americans are future-oriented, they hope that things will go well (though there is an opinion that Americans have become less optimistic than they used to be). |

Patriotic: American patriotism is close to ethnocentrism, many of them believe that their country is a superior country. One can see flags displayed in most residences, offices, and clubs. “…public display [of the American flag] may indicate a strong degree of ethnocentrism” (Mucha, 1998,46). |
Patriotism of the Soviet people is comparable to American patriotism. Now when one is free to say everything many people seem to be less patriotic. Some scholars point out a very low autostereotype of Russians and it comes from the tendency to belittle themselves. |

Пятьдесят центов с каждого – вполне разумно и не обидно, дать больше – он будет думать, что мы используем его, как таксиста. А так это возможность для нас не чувствовать себя должниками…» Комментарий автора данной статьи: «…здесь противопоставляются две вещи, которые неправильно интерпретируются представителями двух разных культур. Это стремление американцев к независимости, когда излишняя опека и услуги переживаются как навязывание чужой воли и стремление русских к установлению более тесных дружеских контактов посредством участия в чужой жизни и вовлечение в круг своих интересов.
