The Body-shop philosophy in practice. How does it work?

It works on many levels? Some are more visible than others. Our products reflect our philosophy. They are formulated with care and respect:

Respect for other cultures: Anita Roddick travels extensively each year and learns how people in different countries care for their skin and hair. Some of these ideas are incorporated into our products.

Respect for the past: we look to the past for experience and wisdom: many of our ingredients, such as honey and almond oil, have been used for centuries. 'Old' ingredients have a history of safety which we can rely on.

Respect for natural world: many of our ingredients are naturally based, obtained as close-to-sourse as possible. We look to the plant world for our souses and inspiration.

And The Body Shop respects its customers, offering them choices, and providing them with information to support those choices. Customer care and service is a priority. And our stuff are trained to provide it.

The Environment and our community.

The Body Shop is an expanding and successful company. We are also profitable, and we are concerned about the responsibility of those profits. It’s a partnership of profits with principles. The company operates within the world, the environment, the community. That is where our responsibilities lie: we want to give something back to society.

The Body Shop and the Third world.

We source many of our ingredients in the Third World, encouraging local communities to grow ingredients and trade. We aim to have relationship with the Third World based on equality.
