7.Заключение

Мы предложили новое «катастрофическое» решение проблеме отсутствия продвинутых внеземных цивилизаций или их проявлений (Парадокс Ферми).

В дополнение к уже обсуждавшимся темам технологических ловушек, поджидающих интеллектуальные сообщества – таким, как ядерные или нанотехнологичесие катастрофы – мы указали, что продвинутая геоинженерия может, случайно или намерено, привести к биологической деградации таких удалённых разумных цивилизаций. Только совсем недавно мы достигли стадии, на которой такой макропроект, как зонд Стевенсона «Миссия к ядру Земли» (MTEC), стал технологически реализуем. Помимо предложения увеличить общественное внимание к этой новой, доступной нашей реализации, угрозе существованию, мы предполагаем, что такая судьба постигла или может постичь, по крайней мере, некоторые другие Галактические цивилизации. Мы показали некоторые, крайне умозрительные причины, почему эта климатическая катастрофа может быть более серьёзной угрозой на других обитаемых планетах, чем на Земле. Когда эта угроза существованию добавляется к другим хорошо известным угрозам, становится возможным, что полный риск, с которым сталкиваются цивилизации, достаточно велик, чтобы объяснить полное отсутствие их проявлений.
