Минулий перфектний (доконаний) час

• Вираження дії, що відбулася раніше іншої минулої дії, позначеної дієсловом у Past Indefinite:

I told you I had met her. (Я казав тобі, що зустрічав її. (зустрічав її раніше, ніж говорив про це))

When she had closed the suitcase, she put on her coat. (Закривши валізу, вона надягла пальто. (Вона надягла пальто після того, як закрила валізу.))

ПРИМІТКИ:

1. Під час переліку минулих дій у тій послідовності, в якій вони відбувалися, дієслова вживаються у Past Indefinite.

I opened the door, closed it and went into the bedroom. (Я відчинив двері, зачинив їх і пішов у спальню.)

2. У складнопідрядному реченні із сполучниками after і before, коли немає потреби наголошувати, що одна дія передує іншій, і в головному, і в підрядному реченнях вживається Past Indefinite:

He stood motionless after she disappeared. (Він стояв нерухомо, після того як вона зникла.)

I was a schoolteacher before I got into the army. (Перед тим як потрапити до армії, я був шкільним учителем.)

• Вираження минулої дії, що вже закінчилася до певного моменту в минулому. Цей момент позначається такими словосполученнями: by two o’clock (до другої години), by that time (до того часу), by the 1st of September (до першого вересня) тощо:

I had done my homework by 8 o’clock. (До восьмої години я вже виконав своє домашнє завдання.)

• Заперечна форма Past Perfect вказує на те, що до певного моменту в минулому дія ще не закінчилася:

I had not read the book by Saturday. (До суботи я ще не прочитав книжку.)

We had not received the telegram when he arrived. (Коли він приїхав, ми ще не одержали телеграму.)

Стверджувальна форма

S + had + Ved/III They had cleaned the room before I came.

Заперечна форма

S + had + not + Ved/III He had not done his homework by 8 o’clock.

Питальна форма

Had + S + Ved/III? Had you prepared the report by that time?

THE FUTURE PERFECT TENSE

Майбутній перфектний (доконаний) час

• Вираження майбутньої дії, що закінчиться до певного моменту або до початку іншої дії в майбутньому:

You will have forgotten me by then. (До того часу ви мене забудете.)

I will have read the story by the time you come back. (Я прочитаю оповідання, поки ти повернешся.)

Стверджувальна форма

S + will + have + Ved/III They will have learnt the poem by the time you come back.

Заперечна форма

S + will + not + have + Ved/III He will not have done his homework by 8 o’clock.

Питальна форма

Will + S + have + Ved/III? Will you have prepared the report by that time?

Узгодження часів

• Якщо присудок головного речення в англійській мові виражений дієсловом в одному з минулих часів або в Present Perfect, то в підрядному додатковому реченні дієслово-присудок, як правило, зміщується до минулого.

Present Indefinite ‘I want to find a better job,’ he said.	Past Indefinite He said he wanted to find a better job.
Present Continuous ‘They are playing table tennis,’ he said.	Past Continuous He said they were playing table tennis.
Present Perfect ‘I have ordered a new fridge,’ she said.	Past Perfect She said she had ordered a new fridge.
Past Indefinite ‘Jack left the country,’ they said.	Past Perfect They said Jack had left the country.

Future Indefinite ‘I will send you a letter,’ he said.	Future Indefinite-in-the-Past He said he would send me a letter.

• Деякі слова та вирази змінюються при застосуванні узгодження часів:

tonight, today, this week/month/year, etc.	that night, that day, that week/month/year, etc.
now	then, at that time, at once, immediately
yesterday, last night/week/month/ year, etc.	the day before/the previous day, the previous night/week/month/year, etc., the night/week/month/year, etc. before

• Узгодження часів не застосовується:

1. Загальновідомий факт:

They knew that Kyiv is the capital of Ukraine. (Вони знали, що Київ – це столиця України.)

2. Коли вказується дата, Past Indefinite не замінюється на Past Perfect:

I knew that he was born in 1994. (Я знала, що він народився у 1994р.)

3. Деякі модальні дієслова не змінюються: would, could, might, should and ought to.

The teacher told her that she should do this task on her own.

(Вчитель сказав їй, що їй слід виконати це завдання самостійно.)
