Abraham Lincoln

16th President of the United States In office March 4, 1861 – April 15, 1865. He ended ending slavery, and promoted economic and financial modernization of the US. Though he never joined a church, Lincoln was familiar with the Bible, quoted it and praised it

  1. No man is good enough to govern another man without that other's consent.

Government is a social contract between the people and those who govern. In other words, government does not give us our rights but is formed to protect our rights. One who governs must have consent. About elections – we delegate powers to elected people

  1. If destruction be our lot we must ourselves be its author and finisher. As a nation of free men we must live through all time, or die by suicide.

Если нам грозит уничтожение — так не достанься ты никому

Liberty in democracy – life has no value without liberty – it's pure sense of democracy

  1. You may fool all the people some of the time; you can even fool some of the people all the time; but you can't fool all of the people all the time.

It's relevant to our conditions, in our country. Вспоминаем выборы ЕдРа. Нас дурят!! но это не продлится вечно. Мы сами выбираем и мы сами смещаем. Нельзя давать им нас дурить.

  1. Those who deny freedom to others deserve it not for themselves.

if you prevent someone having freedom, then you shouldn't have freedom either

относись так к другим, как хотел бы чтобы они относились к тебе

Theodore Roosevelt

26th President of the United States In office September 14, 1901 – March 4, 1909. He was a leader of the Republican Party.

  1. I wish that all Americans would realize that American politics is world politics.

  1. The things that will destroy America are prosperity-at-any-price, safety-first instead of duty-first, the love of soft living, and the get-rich-quick theory of life.

STANDARTS OF AMERICAN LIVING!!!!

  1. Theodore Roosevelt and his administration, while he was the President of the United States, is one that we should look at as a model for how a country should be run. Among many accomplishments, he notably reduced the national debt by 90,000,000 dollars, established the United States as a world military power, and stabilized the economy by regulating trusts. I am not here to offer a history lesson; the above quote is one that every American should think about as we decide who to vote as our next President. We live in a democratic country and throughout history it has been proven that a democracy lasts for an average of 200 years. If my math is correct, we have surpassed that amount of time with few serious threats to the destruction of this country. This country is 231 years young and if we expect it to last another 200 plus years we need to get back to the basics. Theodore Roosevelt spoke of the things that will destroy America and not doing those things will be a good start. His first point, prosperity-at-any-price, can be coupled with his last point, the get rich-quick-theory of life. These ideas are aimed towards those people, during his time, that liked to build monopolies. Their idea of taking over as many business as possible on their way to the top did not sit well with him. While that kind of ambition is needed in this country today, the wealth needs to be distributed more wholly. More businesses, more competition will keep the economy stable for years. Peace-at-any-price and safety-first instead of duty-first are ideals this country is currently struggling with tremendously. The War in Iraq and the war on terrorism have not gone the way many Americans had hoped and prayed they would. In saying that, Roosevelt believed strongly in diplomatic relations. He never backed away from a challenge and even settled debates within other countries like the Russo-Japanese War. Whoever our next president is needs to be prepared to keep up international relations from the moment he, or she, assumes the presidency. The better we become acquainted with other countries the more this country will continue to prosper. The last point Roosevelt touches on is very important, the love of soft living. This refers to "settling." What will kill this country is resting on what we have. In the beginning, this country accomplished much in its early years, because we had little. During Roosevelt's tenure, America was thriving, but he always looked to add more and more. Presently, America is still thriving, but we can not stop there. We must continue to develop and be aware of what is around us, always on the look out. As we can look towards Roosevelt as an example, we can also look towards ancient history. The greatest democracy in the history of the world, ancient Rome, was destroyed because they did not institute these simple principles. They felt they had it all figured out and then one day they were ambushed on all sides of their empire. They distanced themselves from the rest of the world and became too comfortable, they made the ultimate mistakes. When we look to the future, a quick glance to the past is necessary. Philosopher George Santayana said it best, "those who can not remember the past are condemned to repeat it." Democracy has had a long history of failure. Let us work to change the lessons of history by electing a president who will institute the basic principles that Theodore Roosevelt taught us

  1. There is a homely adage which runs: "Speak softly and carry a big stick; you will go far."

In the quote ,Roosevelt is speaking U.S policy toward Latin America. The idea of "speaking softly" referred to the idea that the United States was going to negotiate peacefully with countries in Latin America. If the American nation will speak softly, and yet build and keep at a pitch of the highest training a thoroughly efficient navy, the Monroe Doctrine will go far. If the American nation will speak softly, and yet build and keep at a pitch of the highest training a thoroughly efficient navy, the Monroe Doctrine will go far.

Stick and carrot-policy!! Diplomatic activity without backing of military is useless!!

Franklin Delano Roosevelt

  1. The only thing we have to fear is fear itself - nameless, unreasoning, unjustified terror which paralyzes needed efforts to convert retreat into advance.

  1. Democracy is not a static thing. It is an everlasting march.

  1. A conservative is a man with two perfectly good legs who, however, has never learned to walk forward.
