I am a student

So, I am a student now. I’m a first – year student of the day department. I entered the University after leaving a secondary school. Sevastopol National Technical University – that’s the name of the University I study at.

In July I took my entrance exams and was enrolled at the University. Of course it was not an easy experience, but I did my best, I worked hard at my subjects, and, as a result I passed all my exams successfully and my dream to become a student finally came true.

Many new things and notions came into my life with it. At first I didn’t know what they meant. Now I’ve become familiar with such words as “a freshman”, “an undergraduate”, and such terms as “a seminar”, “lab-works”. I know what the following expressions - “to take notes”, “to pass thousands” mean.

We do many subjects at our University. Here are some of them: physics, higher mathematics, foreign languages (English, German or French), history of Ukraine. Though mathematics is my favourite subject, I take great interest in the history of our country, because there are still so many facts from our history that I’ve never heard about.

I’m still to know more, and first of all how to save time to be able not only to study well, but to take an active part in the students life – to join our students’ scientific society, to play in our University football team, to visit interesting evening parties, meetings of our discussion club and a lot more.

Text two University

After leaving secondary school I entered Sevastopol National Technical University. Now I am a first-year student in the ………………………… department. I study in the day department.

Our University is well-known in Ukraine. It was established in 1963. About 6.000 students of more than 30 nationalities study here. The University offers both day departments and correspondence departments The University trains engineers in many specialized fields, such as:

• radio-engineering;

• electronics;

• computers and programming;

• automation of technological processes;

• power engineering;

• ship building, etc.

There are a lot of new specialized fields:

• finance and credits;

• economics and management;

• environment protection;

• philology.

The department of the foreign languages is one of the most popular with students.

The training course lasts 5 years. The 5-year period is divided into:

1. two years of general study when the students are taught different subjects of general nature:

- higher mathematics; - physics; - descriptive geometry;

- theoretical mechanics; - heat engineering; - drawing;

- strength of materials; - electrical engineering; - foreign languages.

2. three years of professional training when the students learn subjects necessary for the given profession. At the end of the fourth year the University graduates are sent for a few months to industrial enterprises to get some practical know-how.

The academic year begins, as a rule, at the end of August and ends in June and it is divided into two terms: the autumn term and the spring term. During the year students attend lectures and classes, do laboratory works and participate in seminars. At the end of each term students take oral tests and exams. The fifth-year students are busy during the year getting prepared to defend their diploma papers.

The advanced students join the students’ scientific society and are engaged in research. They carry out experiments in laboratories equipped with up-to-date instruments and apparatus.

Students who come from other cities in Ukraine live at the students’ hostels.

A two-storied library provides students with text-books, reference-books and literature on special subjects.

There is a beautiful sport complex in the University, which includes 5 gyms and some sport grounds to go in for any kind of sports any student prefers. Our University is a total complex which trains qualified specialists in all fields of science and engineering.
