Procrastination
The presentation had been prepared A.N. Zrobok.
Procrastination is
a type of behavior,
deferment of actions or tasks to a later time,
mechanism for coping with the anxiety associated with starting or completing any task or decision.
3. Causes of procrastination Psychological causes
anxiety,
low self-worth,
self-defeating mentality,
lower-than-normal level of conscientiousness,
"dreams and wishes" of perfection,
task-aversion, is often mischaracterized as laziness,
lack of willpower,
loss of ambition.
David Allen:
things too small to worry about,
things too big to control, tasks that a person might fear.
4. Physiological causes
Damage or low activation in the prefrontal cortex can
reduce an individual's ability to filter out distracting stimuli,
poorer organization,
a loss of attention,
increased procrastination.
5. Consequences of procrastination
stress,
recurrent low mood,
a sense of guilt,
the loss of personal productivity,

ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder).
6. Student syndrome
lack of time management or study skills,
stress,
feeling overwhelmed with their work.
Many students will begin to fully apply themselves to a task only just before a deadline => wasting any buffers built into individual task duration estimates.
7. Types of procrastinators The relaxed type
They view their responsibilities negatively
avoids them
direct energy into other tasks,
unable to defer gratification.
It is a form of denial or cover-up.
8. The tense-afraid type
feeling overwhelming pressure,
unrealistic about time,
uncertain about goals,
feeling that they lack the ability or focus to successfully complete their work,
many other negative feelings.
They usually have grandiose plans that aren't realistic.
They often withdraw from social life.
This behavior becomes a cycle of failure and delay.
