Introduction
To the teacher
“ Reflecting on Society” is a communicative textbook, specially written to motivate and involve students in effective learning of literature. The textbook consists of 24 chapters and provides systematic preparation for all the skills required for successful communication both the written (translations) and spoken form. Each chapter is prepared to be taught in about one teaching hour.
Note
Vocabulary :
Each chapter has a vocabulary section. This deals with a particular area of words and word combinations from each chapter. It is very important that students drill different word combinations . This is a suggested range of words and words combinations found suitable for classroom work. The teacher should make flashcards with definitions for practising words and word combinations. The students may work in pairs or in groups. The teacher can frequently do this drilling so that students will be able to use these word combinations in oral practice successfully.
Suggested cues: to be a heavy smoker (chapter 1) someone who smokes a lot
to drop about a thousand (chapter 5) to say smth informally and without emphasizing
a dirty trick(chapter 2) an unkind or unfair thing to do
Writing essays or compositions:
It is very important that students write compositions. The teacher corrects students’ homework then puts the most successful ones on the classroom notice board or present to the students of this group. This stimulates students to try harder.
