Vocabulary

  1. popular hobbies, have special interests, be mad about (collecting things), support a football team, football fan, shopper, unusual addiction, to be addicted to millionaire property tycoon, be/become obsessed with (buying), the more unusual the collection, the bigger the obsession; it’s my choice, it’s my idea of fun, great passion

  2. to be crazy about, enjoy, be keen on, don’t mind, be interested in, can’t stand, absolutely loathe + Ving; find cooking relaxing

  3. particularly important, doesn’t really matter to me, having good friends, religion, being attractive, having a nice home, having enough money to travel, having nice clothes, having enough time to relax, having a successful career, a good salary, being fit and healthy, living in a nice area, having enough money for a nice car, going out a lot, having a busy social life

clothes and sportswear, designer goods, accessories, perfume, cosmetics, can’t afford, save up for, advertising, better quality goods last longer, a waste of money, look better, possession; wallet, purse, diary, everyday object, identity card, passport, driving license, personal possessions; buy something because of the advertising, save up for something special, good quality clothes, be obsessed by good (designer) labels, designer-T-shirts, , look good, look cool, be popular with women, trainers, backpack, apart from clothes, it’s a good idea to pay a bit more for the things if they are better quality

  2. Are you obsessed with good labels?

  3. Why do expensive things usually last longer?

  4. Why are cheap things a waste of money?

  5. Have you ever bought anything because of the advertising?

  6. Was it worth every penny paid for it?

  8. What is it ‘to look cool’? What kind of clothes are popular with your fellow students?

  9. What kind of clothes do you wear every day and on special occasions?

  10. What is your favourite brand? What is your best colour?

  11. Do you buy things apart from clothes? What are they?

  12. What is your best-ever present? Who gave it to you? What does it look like?

  13. What do you usually take with you when you go on holiday?

  2. Are you interested in particular work areas? What is your future occupation? What industry would you like to find a job within?

  3. What qualities do you have that will help you in your future job? What are your bad points?

  4. What jobs are the best for people with plenty of ideas? For people who are good with people? Good with figures? With money? Speak foreign languages fluently?

  5. Why are good manners essential?
