VOCABULARY & SPELLING SUCCESS

C H A P T E R

1 Pretest

Before you start your study of vocabulary, you may want to get an idea of how much you already know and how much you need to learn. If that’s the case, take the pretest in this chapter. The pretest consists of 50 questions introducing you to many of the words you will learn as you

complete the exercises in this book. Even if you get all the questions on this pretest right, it’s almost guaranteed that you will find a few words in this book that you didn’t know before. On the other hand, if you hardly know any of the words on the pretest, don’t despair. Out of the many words in this book, you’re sure to find a few that you are already familiar with, and that will make the going easier.

So, use this pretest just to get a general idea of how much of this book you already know. If you get a high score on this pretest, you may be able to spend less time with this book than you originally planned. If you get a lower score, you’ll be amazed at how much your vocabulary will improve by completing the exercises in each chapter.
