My Major

Each student at the Ternopil Instrument-Making Institute pursues a curriculum chosen to meet individual career goals while taking certain common courses. Basic courses in mathematics, chemistry, physics, foreign language and computer science are required in the first few years. Although the curricula are progressively specialized in the last years, each student is required to take some courses outside his or her chosen field.

Nontechnical courses are included in each curricula. Many nontechnical courses satisfy the broad objectives of the humanities and social sciences requirements of the engineering curricula-making the student keenly aware of the urgent problems of society and developing a deeper appreciation of human cultural achievements.

Although new freshmen take a common, or similar, program, they are asked to choose a curriculum in which they wish to study. This choice includes picking a major or a specialty. There are 12 majors at TIMI.

Economy and Management of Production majors and Business Economics majors study systematic control of enterprise departments which belong to different forms of property, and after graduation can work in top management positions in the departments of marketing, organization of production, planning economy, material-engineering equipment department, and in scientific-research laboratories and centers which deal with strategic management problems.

Technology of Machine-Building majors and Metal-Cutting Tools and Systems majors design and develop modern technologies and technological equipment and can work at design and manufacturing bureaus.
