Let me introduce myself. My name is Alexander, Alex for short. My full name is Alexander Sergeyevich Orlov. Orlov is my surname. Alexander is my first name and Sergeyevich is my patronymic. I’m nearly eighteen-next Thursday is my birthday. Now I’m a first-year student. I study at the Institute. Every day I attend lectures. In January and June I take examinations. I get good or excellent marks in all the subjects. When I graduate from the Institute I want to work as an engineer.

I have a large family. My parents have two more children besides me. Thus I have got an elder brother and a younger sister. My sister Helen is just out of school. She is sixteen. She is very fond of music and her dream is to become a pianist. My brother, whose name is Michael, is eight years my senior. He is twenty six already. He is a builder. He is married and has a family of his own. They are four in the family. He has a wife and two children- a son and a daughter. They are twins.

My parents are not old at all. Father is fifty and mother is three years his junior. My father is a doctor. He works in a hospital. He is very busy, he has a lot of patients and does all he can to help them. My mother is a book-keeper. She works at an office. She too has a lot of work. Still, she finds time to look after the house and to take care of all of us.

My grandfather is not yet a pensioner, though he is over seventy. He is still full of the life energy. My grandmother is also in very good health. She does most of the cooking. Of course mother helps her and so does my sister. In the evening we all come together and either watch TV or just talk about the events of the day. We are all great friends. I love my relatives dearly.

Naberehznye Chelny is this second in size only to Kazan, the capital of the Tatarstan. Its population is more than half a million. People of more than sixty nationalities live here.

Naberehznye Chelny is a town situated on the left bank of the Kama river. Its history is interesting and romantic. In the historical museum you can see the first map of the earlier settlement. The people occupied themselves with fishing, handicrafts, trade. In old times merchants used to live there.

40 years ago Naberehznye Chelny greatly differed from what it is today. There were no fine buildings there. It was a town of narrow streets, one-storied wooden houses, and small workshop. The streets were dirty, not paved with asphalt and poorly lighted.

Now we can see a modem whitestoned city where old "Chelny" was once situated. The city has two pans: the old and the new. Hundreds of modern production, public, recreational buildings, new blocks of flats have changed the former settlement beyond recognition. They are all built of brick and erected from prefabricated concrete slabs and panels. The town has straight and broad streets, large squares, and interesting architectural ensembles. In the north-eastern part of the New Town Prospect Mira (Peace Avenue) lies. On both sides one can sec schools, kindergartens, cafes, various shops.

The street traffic in the city is rather heavy. Trams, cars, taxis and buses move up and down its busy streets and you have to be very careful crossing them. During the morning and evening rush hours the public transport is usually overcrowded. At this time it is not easy to get on and off a bus or a tram.

Today the town is know as KamAZ because it because it became a construction-site of the Kama autoworks for producing heavy-duty lorries, which construction began in December. 1969. There is Nizhnekamskaya hydro-electric power station, one of the many power stations built on the Kama.

Our city is often called "a city of future¹" because the most up-to-date town-planning ideas are being realized here. So that the city's air can be clean all enterprises have been built-beyond the city's boundaries, in a special industrial zone. There is a bus service between N.CH. and Beghishevo airport as well as Kazan, Nizhnekamsk, Almetievsk, Ufa, Izhevsk.

In the years to come there is still much more to be built.
