Ivano-Frankivsk (formerly Stanislav, and popularly known as Franik) is an ancient city nestled between the rivers Nadvirnyanska Bystrytsya and Solotvynska Bystrytsya, in the foothills of the picturesque Carpathians. At various times throughout its history Ivano-Frankivsk has been held by the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, Austria and Poland. Consequently, these echoes of history are seen throughout the townscape of the city.

Roman Catholic Parish Church (Art Museum)

This is one of the city's most valuable architectural assets. The church was designed in the 17th century by the architect Francois Korassini.

Cathedral of the Resurrection

The Cathedral reflects Austro-Bavarian architectural traditions with classical detailing. The tops of the towers are in the style of Hutsul wood architecture.

Market Square

It is the center of the city.

City Hall (Local History Museum)

This monumental building erected in the 17th century is located in Market Square and is regarded as an iconic landmark of the city. Its height is 49 meters.

Stometrovkа

This is a 100 meter pedestrian section of Nezalezhnosti Street leading from Viche Square to Ivan Franko Street.

City Brewery

This is one of the few plants that are still operational.

Museum of Family Occupations

The museum is a private collection of occupations created by journalist R. Fabryka. It tells a story of 150 different occupations of Fabryka's family members for the past 200 years.

Traditional Dishes

The traditional dish of Prykarpattia (a historic area located in the northern foothills of the Carpathian Mountains) is Hutsul banosh (cornmeal mush) with brynza (sheep's milk cheese).  Prykarpatskyy Balsam is a herbal liqueur known not only in the region, but much further afield as well. This strong alcoholic drink contains extracts of 17 different herbs and is reputed to have healing properties. It is produced only in the Ivano-Frankivsk Region.
