Dear Sir,

We are sorry to inform you that we are not satisfied with the quality of the consignment shipped by s/s “MARUSJA”.

We have examined the consignment of Beans shipped by s/s “MARUSJA” and, in accordance with the terms and conditions of the contract we hereby make a claim against you for inferior quality of the goods. While discharging the cargo of Beans we found the quality not up to the sample and in the circumstances we are compelled to give you formal notice of claim for inferior quality.

We find that 45,000.00 bags of beans ex vessel “MARUSJA” sold to us contain an excessive quantity of unripe, broken and defective beans. The bulk of the goods discharged from the vessel do not correspond to the sample submitted (and on the basis of which the contract was concluded). Therefore we claim an allowance of 35.90 cents per pound on the ground of inferior quality.

Failing your acceptance of our claim, it will be submitted for arbitration.

Dear Sirs,

We refer to the consignment of kitchen wall units which you delivered to our warehouse, as arranged on the 15th this month.

On unpacking these articles this morning to put them on display in our showrooms, we found the insides of the door panels of each unit having large purple stains of approximately 10-25 cm in diameter. These stains appear to be due either to faulty colouring or sub-standard synthetic veneer. In any case the finish of the goods in absolutely unacceptable.

Whatever the cause, and even though the defect is not visible from the outside, these articles are clearly unsaleable. We cannot possibly supply our customers with the goods in this condition.

Should you wish to come and inspect the units by yourself, we are at your disposal. Obviously, however, we expect you to reclaim and to replace these damaged items as soon as possible.

1. Serious vs grave vs gross синонимами не являются. Seriousсерьезный, решительный, трудный, внимательный, тщательный (serious problems). Grave – серьезный, угрожающий, чреватый последствиями (grave defects). Gross – большой крупный, бросающийся в глаза, вопиющий, грубый (gross infringement).
